Thing with the contract....the team's hands were tied. Letting him walk after giving up 2 firsts would have been a disaster. Turns out the big c contract was too! But I think when you make a deal like that, the player has all the leverage in negotiations.
I will come back to blaming Russ a bit :), saying his comments that of-season like we need more stars led to an aggressive move like this to try and put the team over the top and keep the main guy happy.
Thing is when they tried to. play to his strengths at time last year like blitzing, it...
Just finished listening to the ATN podcast where they discussed the top 10 revenge games this year. I feel the need to report here that DJ Dallas vs the Seahawks did not come up
Here's why I lean towards this trade and the aggressive moves being more a Pete thing. I am basing it on the way Pete has always been more "in the moment / win now" vs long term. Part of what I am basing this on is including the way he coaches in game. I will go as far as to use the word...
My first thought is a win to start the year but I'll be guarded this year. That's what I thought last year too and was pretty miserable by the end of that game.
I didn't think it would be this one either. I had heard that the networks like saving these games for later and not "wasting it" week when everyone is watching anyway. I thought they would go with Houston. Or even a division matchup vs the Chargers with Harbough there now
If Hutch is good at his job and a great judge of O-line talent to help draft, we are going to throw away that resource over a 20 year old grudge? I am glad the front office doesn't see it that way
This was great. just came out today so I don't think it's posted yet

This is what I think too. Don't usually see player for player trades anymore. What's the point in getting a draft pick that can't help this year? All it would do is weaken the Hawks for this year. Depending on how DK meshes with the new staff, I could see him getting death with a year left...
Actually what the Hawks did played out close to what I heard about a strategy for them. In that scenario though, rather than take a DT, the strategy was to trade down vs taking Fautanu because you could pick up a starting guard in round 2 or 3. Based on that, I think Murphy + Haynes > Fautanu...
