I think Strong is just really 'meh'. Doesn't play big. Not particularly athletic. At no point in two years has he really stood out to me. Tony Pauline's sources reckon mid-rounder and I tend to agree. I just don't see a special player at all.

Good read, thanks. I haven't been reading up on prospects as much this year so these are helpful.

Thanks Rob! I really like TJ Clemmings potential and am not convinced he'll go as early as some people think he will. This is a draft where I'd love us to get aggressive and move up for guys we like. Could do with a few picks in the first couple of rounds to fill some needs on the OL, RB and WR.

I see Duke's potential as a #1 and whilst Sammie doesn't look like that guy I still think both can be good NFL receivers, which is mad because Auburn doesn't produce many of late.

I would be over the moon if the hawks got mg3 but I think he is gone by the mid 20s so I don't think it's going to happen :(

I suddenly remember why you're one of my favorite people. Thanks, Rob. May porn head rain from your rooftop.

Danny Shelton is a glaring omission.

Rewatch the Oregon game, Grasu owned him, even pancaked him twice, as will lots of NFL C.

I have the game. Shelton had a sack on Mariota, as well as two stops behind the line of scrimmage and eight tackles. Name the play (time and quarter) in which this supposed "pancake" occurred. Grassu is a very good player, BTW, the best center in the conference the last two years. Shelton put together a strong individual effort while going against him.

The sack on Mariota came on 3rd down on the first series of the game - a three and out. Shelton was bullrushing Stevens and Grassu into the backfield on nearly every play in that drive. On the 3rd down sack, Shelton flashed his power and speed off the ball by driving Grassu four yards into the backfield before successfully disengaging and driving through Mariota.

Shelton also generated a good push on Oregon's second drive. He drove through Stevens into the backfield and rushed Martiota on the first play, but the QB rolled to his left outside the pocket to complete the pass. On the second play, Shelton blew past Grassu with a swim move and then blew up Mariota, forcing an incompletion.

I will re-watch the whole game if I have to just to prove you are mistaken.

Here's the rest of the First Quarter after Shelton's hit on Mariota:
2nd and 10 at ORE 47 - Shelton drives into the backfield, and then dives to attempt the tackle on Royce Freeman.
3rd and 5 at WASH 48- Shelton fights through Marcus Hunt to generate pressure, but Mariota gets the ball off for a completion.
1st and 10 at WASH 39- Shelton holds his gap, Freeman hits a wall and tries to bounce it outside, and Shelton wraps him up for a tackle
2nd and 8 at WASH 37- Shelton once again drives into the backfield, beats his man with strong hand work, and chases Mariota 10-yards deep to force the incompletion.
3rd and 8 at WASH 37- Shelton holds the left A gap, but Freeman runs through the opposite gap for a TD.

3rd Drive for Oregon
1st and 10 at ORE 19- Shelton holds the point of attack, Marshall is stopped in the pile after a couple of yards.
2nd and 7 at ORE 22- Shelton drives three yards into the backfield, but Marshall runs in the opposite direction on a misdirection play for 6 yds
3rd and 1 at ORE 28- Shelton bullrushes three yards into the backfield, but Mariota completes a screen pass.
1st and 10 at ORE 37- Shelton holds his gap, while Marshall is stopped for a short gain.
2nd and 7 at ORE 40- Shelton again beats his man into the backfield, but Marcus swings out a quick screen pass.
3rd and 1 at ORE 46- Shelton holds gap, LB misses tackle allowing Marshall to run for the first down.
OREGON Penalty, Personal Foul on RG Cameron Hunt for unnecessary roughness
1st and 10 at ORE 35- Shelton holds gap and spies Mariota, pass is incomplete.
2nd and 10 at ORE 35- Shelton again holds his gap, Mariota runs wide for another first down.
1st and 10 at ORE 47- Shelton pushes into backfield, but Mariota easily completes pass for another 1ST down.
1st and 10 at WASH 42- Bad play by Shelton, who holds his gap but does not disengage to make tackle on Marshall. It actually looks like holding on Grassu here that went uncalled.
1st and 10 at WASH 28- Shelton holds the point, but again fails to disengage to make the tackle on Marshall. Grassu finally caught for HOLDING on Shelton: 10-yard penalty wipes out Marshall's run.
1st and 20 at WASH 38- Shelton drives Grassu back, Tyner stopped for a loss by Travis Feeney.
2nd and 21 at WASH 39- Shelton beats man into the backfield, falls down, Mariota completes pass.
3rd and 8 at WASH 26- Shelton bullrushes four yards into backfield, Mariota pass complete for 1ST down.
1st and Goal at WASH 8- Shelton pancakes Grassu, really pushes him over Tyner, who is held to one-yard gain.
2nd and Goal at WASH 7- Shelton hold his gap, Tyner stopped on a run outside for no gain.
3rd and Goal at WASH 7- Shelton swims around Grassu, pushing him to the turf, and then chases Mariota out of the pocket.

5 tackles, and UO ran right at him repeatly throughout the game. Hes good, but he's not great like you all think. Most of his big numbers game vs average to below average competition. A dominate DL can disrupt what UO does, he didn't not anywhere near as good as Fairley when we played him.

No, Shelton played well against the Ducks, often getting the best of their All-Conference center. It's not his fault the secondary is full of true freshmen and the ILBs were not filling their lanes.

Please no. If we don't get Gurley, then wait until the mid-rounds to find a guy you like. Last thing I want is a Wisconsin RB in the first round.

Just about every mock draft has him going in the first.

We all know this means very little.

Agreed. If you're a prospect in the 20s in December, that really generally means you're a late 2nd round pick by the time the combine warriors and pro day epiphanies come to light.

I've always kind of figured that the top 10 in December are generally close to locks to make the first. About half of the 11 to 20 will drop out of R1. And only about 3 of the 21 to 32 will make it to day 1. It's still very VERY early in the mock draft process. Opinions will change dramatically as team opinions begin to leak out between February and April.

Shelton is a fringe R1 guy now who will get pushed back hard once 40 times and verticals are known. Ultimately there will be skill playmakers that push him back to where guys of his skill set and pedigree are generically taken.

It lazy scouting to simply evaluate a player based on school history. Can it be a factor? Sure. Is it a reason to eliminate a player from consideration? Surely not.

5 tackles,

8 tackles, 0.5 sack and 2.5 TFL...it's perfectly reasonable to disagree on potential, but when you get basic facts incorrect it lessens your argument.
