Never in the history of the Scouting Combine had anyone broad-jumped 12 feet. Until today.

Byron Jones, a cornerback from UConn, had a 12-foot, 3-inch broad jump this morning, shattering the old record of 11 feet, 7 inches. That’s an insanely good broad jump — so good that it might be the best broad jump in human history. The standing long jump is rarely performed in competitive settings and hasn’t been an Olympic event in 100 years, so it’s hard to find reliable records for it. But Wikipedia lists the world record as 3.71 meters, which would be 12 feet, 2 inches.

That's almost two of me. From a standing jump. Unreal.

He's on the list of Seahawks eligible DB's . . . wonder where he falls.

Finally some tape on him . . .

He has a nice INT in the end zone at the 3:50 mark. Jams the receiver beautifully, sticks with him into the end zone, then releases to drop back and catch the INT.

Moves kind of like a safety with massive thighs. Makes sense as he played safety until 2013 when he was moved to corner. He had shoulder surgery and missed the last seven games of the 2014 season. Hopefully he runs at his Pro Day.

Watched some tape of Jones against Michigan. A good deal of time covering Funchess. Good tackler, plays a lot of press, didn't see any glaring weaknesses in coverage.

Diagnoses and plays the run well.

But the biggest thing I see is a guy that is confident to the point of cockiness. Really firey player. He'd fit great here.

Rob Rang and the guys over at NFLDraftScout.com had him pegged as a 7th Round Draft Choice ... and NFL.com had him as their 26th rated CB before today. I'm not sure if this performance will end up vaulting him in to more of that 5th Round range, but for sure I'd chalk him up along with Chris Conley as guys John Schneider and the Seahawks might be interested in come the later rounds.

The Seahawks have obviously had a great deal of success mining talent in those later rounds. They certainly love freak athletes, so I'd don't think there's any question he'd get a look if he's available on Day 3 when they pick.

McShay said last week he had Jones as a 2nd rounder. Says Jones can run a 4.3 40.

Heard the same thing from Daniel Jeremiah yesterday, said he had him as a Top 50 player. He looks a litlle awkward when he's up on the line in press but other then that very Saeahawkish frame for a DB.

In some of these he is matched up against the FBS record holder for career catches, Justin Hardy .
