Interesting comments about Arkansas RB Alex Collins, who Brooks was told by a scout is the best RB in this draft and he's the most complete, able to run inside and outside. Says scouts will be looking at his receiving ability at the combine as a test for possible first round grade...

Given other needs and Rawls, I don't see the Hawks taking a RB in round 1, though that's been a discussion.

That would be really shocking. I'd agree that he could be the best between the tackles runner in this draft because his combination of vision, power, and balance is Marshawn Lynch-esque. However, that comparison falls apart in the open field because while Collins runs through arm tackles without skipping a beat, he doesnt run over people and has average elusiveness ans speed. Collins just doesnt have the lateral agility or unreal speed that first round RBs have. He will be a solid starter in the NFL and could be an every down guy for some team, but I dont consider him a first round talent.

However, if a team is in desperate need of an every down back and falls in love with Collins reliability, I guess they could pull the trigger in the late first/early second. That would most likely be in a worst case scenario/their most coveted players, that would fill more pressing needs, are gone.

Collins isn't even the best back on his team, much less in this draft. I'd take Williams over him every time.

Brooks is a smart guy. But I think this speculation has more to do with the 1st round being very weak than Collins being all that impressive.

This feels like one of those drafts, like 2013, where nearly all of the future stars emerge quietly from the 2nd and 3rd waves of talent.

There are about 15 players I'd be happy with in the 1st round, so it would be great if Collins is selected before our pick, thus increasing the chances of one of those 15 players falling to us.

Im not going to disagree, but I'm just curious how you would know that. Williams only has one video on draftbreakdown. Is that all youve seen of him? Did you watch Razorback games a year and two years ago when he was healthy? Im not trying to come off condescending, but you seem pretty confident in that statement, and I want to know what your sample size is.

I would agree that Wiliams has more athletic ability but "better" in this case is subjective. Do you mean you'd take him for Seattle, or for anyone? I think if Williams ended up in Dallas, he will be considered the steal of the draft by this time next year, assuming he fully recovers from his injury. Whereas I think Collins would be better in a place like Carolina or with the Jets.

Let me be clear that I'm not trying to say I would know better because I'm a Razorback fan and I've watched all of both of their college games. I've been trying to find other videos of Willliams, so I would appreciate if you can tell me where you watched some of his other tape.

And then bunches of highlight videos. I have an admitted bias with Running backs . . . I love speed at the position. I want guys who can make the big plays. Sometimes that means I am wrong. I liked Melvin Gordon more than Todd Gurley last year because I felt Gordon was more explosive. I think Williams is more explosive . . . assuming he returns to 100%.

More than one way to skin a cat. A lot of these players in the draft aren't going to have highlight film out on them. You have to go look up some games from the School they play for and hope their are a few full games online somewhere for those teams. I also like watching full games a little more than I like watching highlights on a player because you get a better feel for the type of player they are on a team when you focus on them; whether they're a leader or not, whether they try too hard to compensate for other players, if they were surrounded with a great supporting cast or if they were the primary star player on the team, etc.

Thanks!

I'd bet most fans have a bias towards speed at runningback, myself included. I even almost talked myself into putting Tevin Coleman as high as Gurley and Gordon last year just because I loved watching him find a crease and sprint past everybody to the endzone.

For Seattle specifically:

Unless we're talking about a real freak of nature, I don't see us taking one super early.

Beyond that -- Seattle is very consistent that they look to add physical runners. Pete has hammered this point relentlessly and even the head scratchers were guys who he lauded their physical running style.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. But the method for Seattle is strictly physical/punishing rushers. If a prospect doesn't excel at that he's almost assuredly not on our board at all.

Kind of the infatuation I have with Keith Marshall this year, but then again... He's likely a last day pick for us, unless another team really wants to roll the dice. If we're going to go for a guy on the 1st or 2nd day, I see Kenneth Dixon as the most likely candidate. Love his style, his combination of balance, power and speed, his hands. He looks like an every down back to me.

I don't think you can say "strictly" because they do value speed as well as blocking ability and receiving as well. Marshawn was a 4.5 guy with a varied skill set. Turbin was a 4.5 guy and great receiver and blocker. Michael was a 4.4 guy would could catch the ball. Rawls is a 4.4 runner as well. It could easily be said the Seahawks value "stirctly" speed backs as well.

I just don't think you can prioritize physicality at the expense of other variables. I do think you can eliminate soft runners and guys under 210 pounds. And you can eliminate slow runners and guys over 4.6 40 times.
