Not sure how valid it is, or if its only when a certain player may fall to 19 (Rankins? Jack? One of the OL?) but .. just a fun nugget to pass along.

What kind of capital does it take to move up only a few spots like that? Sorry, I'm not the most knowledgeable draft person.

I think it's pretty common to be having pre-draft discussions "in case".

If there's someone the Hawks "need" in the right spot it would be good to have an idea of what the potential trade partners would want in picks/players.

I still think they are more likely to trade back than trade up, but this at least gives the impression that there is someone the Hawks really love in the mid 1st.

Well going off the pick value sheet..

19th is worth 875
26th is worth 700

So to make up 175 "points" we'd probably have to kick over our 3rd (90th overall, 140 points). Where it'd get a little tricky is making up that 35 point lapse because the picks in R5 and R6 are comp picks and cant be traded.

Possible deal that could work

Buffalo gives 19th overall (875 points) + 156th overall (5th round; 29 points)
Seattle gives 26th overall (700 points) + 90th overall (3rd round; 140 points) + 124th overall (4th round; 48 points)

Works out to about a 16 point difference so.. not terrible but again, would take Buffalo agreeing to it + Seattle wanting to do that.

That's a very detailed answer. Thank you for putting in the time, that helps me understand it a little more. It's way more complicated than I originally thought.

I don't think teams follow the value chart very closely anymore. I think a 3rd might get it done.

I thought comp picks *can* be traded this year. Or is that not effective until 2017 draft?

Next year's comp picks can be traded this year. Obviously we don't know what they are yet, so they are conditional trades.
