Seahawk sized RB's - National Stat leaders 12/02/17.

2017 National Leaders, Rushing, through 12/02/17: A listing of RB's that MAY interest the Seahawks (I think I've listed most, if not all, of the RB prospects that may best fit the Seahawks desired size preferences and those being most discussed as possible Seahawks picks. This exercise is to show all of their stats in one spot for comparison purposes. I think the below stats make a good case for Penny (whom I feel is very underrated and the likely alternates like Johnson, Jones, Guice, Chubb, Michael & Harris.

So, which RB(s) SHOULD the Seahawks target in the draft???????
--IMO-- ONE OF: Penny, Jones, Johnson, Chubb, Michel, or Harris, & then likely Coleman RD-7/UDFA, will probably be the pick(s). I could live with that.

1.) Rashaad Penny, SDCU, 275/2027/19-TD's, 7.37-yds/avg. 22.92/att-game,168.92/yds.-game, --- #1 on this list in: Total attempts, (275), total yards, (2027), TD's, (19), & yds.-game, (168.92), #2 in att.-game, 22.92. --- NOTE: #1 in: yds./game, (2027), is ***541-yds more than next highest total (by R. Jones)*** ---#2 in: YPC, (7.37), behind only Harris, (8.24) --- It should be noted that Penny also has significant value as a kick returner, Career Punt returns: 2 for 70-yds & 1-TD & KO returns: 78 for 2354-yds, **30.18/avg. & 7-TD's**) --This is an often an overlooked & significant stat.

10.) Ronald Jones, USC. 242/1486/18-TD's, 6.14-ypc/avg., 20.17/att.-game, 123.83/yds.-game

What you should be looking at is average yards a carry and then size, Pete has went with backs from lesser programs that fit his profile a lot, but they have a good average and play in a system that uses multiple talents. Also we typically look in the 3rd or later rounds so marquee guys in big programs will likely be gone as well.

By that criteria, I think Penny could be an excellent pick as Harris, Love & Guice may not fall right & also the hopeful positioning of Penney is such that that can get him with a Rd-4 or Rd-5 pick. Many will want Harris or Love, IMO they will not be realistically available, thus to me Penney is the best available RB after them, followed closely by RB-Sony Michel but only if Penney goes before the Seahawks pick in the mid-rounds. This would allow earlier picks for DE/CB/OLB or OL, assuming the usual trade down(s). I'm not saying that Penny is a better pick than Love or Harris, just more likely available and if not him then Michel. ----> A Rd-7/UDFA Seahawks pick IMO -MUST- include Coleman from UW. The Seahawks can't seem to keep their RB's healthy, so they need to stock up on some more bruisers.

1) SIZE; Penney is 5-096/220, with projected 4.52/40 speed; Meets Seahawks size criteria, his speed a +
2) YPC; 7.37-yd/avg. Penny = 15-th behind: M Williams/Love/Harris/Bradshaw/underclassmen
3) Total yards; #1 with 2027-yds, Note: #2- Love has 1973, 8.32-ypc & will likely be GONE in 1-st Rd.
4) TD's; Penny is #3 with 19, behind only 2 Jr classmen (so 1-st among draft-able.)
5) Yards per game; Penney is #1 with 168.92-yds/game (A true workhorse)
6) Penney is #7 in FBS -K/O-Ret with a 30.60/avg (overlooked NoE benefit, less injury concern for him?)

In the 12/23/17 bowl game against Army, Rashaad Penney had a pretty darn good game:
14-rushes for 221-yds 15.79-ypc, and 4-TD's.

That increases his 13-game season rushing totals to:
289-rushes for 2,248-yds, 7.78-ypc and 23-TD's.

Smaller school, so competition is questioned, however, consider that Penney is the focus of their offense and in every game he is the one player you must stop if you are the enemy coaches. They know he's coming, but they can't stop him. 5 straight 200-yd + games to close out his college career is pretty exceptional and I think Penny becomes a Rd-3/4 pick in the coming draft and that is exciting because the Seahawks have limited draft capital & Penney can fill a big need. Taking Penney in the mid-rounds would allow earlier picks at EDGE, OL, and/or DE - if JS/PC have some trade magic left.

Penney kind of reminds me of a better version of Eddy Lacy. He's not super quick or explosive, but he has good vision and balance and runs through arm tackles. He leads CFB in broken tackles. Has the same body type as Marshawn Lynch out of Cal, but he's not nearly as explosive, doesn't finish runs the same way, and gets tackled for loss a lot due to his lack of initial burst. I doubt he puts up good combine numbers. If we traded down and had a pick in the 4th round, I would think about taking him. But there are several other guys I prefer, including Ronald Jones and Derrius Guice. They have NFL-level explosiveness, but injuries are a bit of a concern.
