You sure he's not using that toupee as a sun dial?

I suspect most of the disparity is the fact he's sitting in the stands and doesn't start the clock nearly as quickly at the electronic timer.

Still, it's pretty comical how the unofficial is a full .10 of a second off on nearly every sprint.

In track & field, say at the Olympics or the World Championships, they have digital timing techniques/gear down to the thousandth of an second... because its a criticallly obvious need to have a reliable, scientific, measuring system.

How is it even possible that the NFL with all their BILLIONS! cant afford a better timekeeper at the friggin' NFL Draft Combine... than this ancient old fart with one eyeball, a nausea inducing toupee, and a stopwatch in the bleachers from like 50 yards away?

How is this even possible? Its unreal.

I mean, shouldn't 40 times flash on like a big giant digital board as soon as the player crosses the finish? Ridiculous...

It does seem ridiculous that the nfln doesn't have a more sophisticated real time system in place. Shame on them.

The combine itself uses that sort of technology but for some reason they don't want to let that info out until all people have been timed so they release the official times after everyone has ran.

That is why we have unofficial times from people in the stands or in this case Casserly.

The official times are accurate though.

Absolutely no reason, in this day and age, and with the NFL as popular as it is -- to have an ageing former GM sat in the stands with his old stopwatch.

We should be getting computer times immediately, not getting a very inaccurate 'unofficial' time and then 1-2 hours later getting a totally different 'official' time.

I definitely agree with that. For some reason they want to keep that secret until the end of the day. Seems silly.

Interesting fact: Casserly lost the thumb on his right hand down to the first knuckle when he was a kid & worked at the local mill. He had his big toe surgically transferred from his foot to his hand, & has lived a very productive life since the accident. Check his wikipedia.

His head isn't too accurate either. This is the guy who proclaimed that "Aaron Curry" was the best LB (pre-2009 draft) since Lawrence Taylor.

This is actually really simple. Football speed is completely different for real speed, so it takes one of the old boy's club experts to handle the football speed measurement.
