I think that's a logical route with Tate walking to fill a WR/PR role, still freeing you up to draft a second, bigger WR if they don't sign one of the remaining WR free agents using guaranteed money... if they truly consider receiver height of big importance, which Doug Baldwin strongly disputed on twitter. The other route is choosing a taller receiver in round 1-2 and going for a smaller return specialist in later rounds. It's probably more speculating on the writer's part than any concrete inside info

Brandon Cooks is going to get smashed by DBs, bigger than him. Its the NFL, not college football. In this offense, he is going to have to block.

From NFL combine-
Weakness:

Size is just adequate -- is small-framed and lacks ideal length and bulk. Vulnerable to the jam and reroute. Relatively small catch radius. Has small hands and double-catches some throws. Lacks elite, blazing speed to run by NFL corners and safeties. Will struggle to play "above the rim" at the next level. Was not an impactful punt returner. Limited run strength. Poor blocker.

-From CBSsports

WEAKNESSES: Lacks ideal size with below average height and length for the position. Limited strength, muscle and overall growth potential. Struggles with physical defenders and doesn't have ideal body strength - will be overwhelmed in man coverage. Looks to avoid contact and would much rather escape out of bounds or go around defenses. Needs to secure the ball through the process to eliminate drops and fumbles. Smallish target for quarterbacks.

Cooks has Desean Jackson-like measurables and production, but he's actually a decent young man. I would be excited about this pick.

The play at 1:23 is one of the craziest things I've ever seen...

I'm not a fan of Cooks, but my opinion aside, he's a very different player than Tate. That said, if we do draft him he will play in the slot and would likely return punts. We might use him on end around type plays and screens. His usage would be very similar, even though his traits are different.

As far as this article goes, keep in mind two things:

#1: PC/JS kick the tires on everything. There are dozens of WRs they would track so it's only natural that Cook would be one of them. It's not exactly a long trip from Seattle to Corvallis either.

#2: Because Cooks is a "local" college player at Oregon State, he will not count against Seattle's 50 prospect visit count this spring. I would expect Cooks to get a trip up to the VMAC in the next month, but I wouldn't make a huge deal out of it.

Among your top 20leading receivers in receptions this past season

5'10 186 Antonio Brown
5'10 198 Julian Edelman
5'10 191 Kendall Wright
5'10 175 Desean Jackson

Sure, it'd be great to have 6'3 230 Andre Johnson, or 6'4 230 Brandon Marshall, or 6'3 225 Josh Gordon, but lets not pretend thet Brandin Cooks at 5'10 190 is too small to succeed. The four guys listed above prove that to be incorrect.

We have tons of short receivers in our WRs, but not very many tall receivers. Need a tall WR, this is the draft to do it in.

What i heard was our WR coach was there to see Cooks, not Pete or John.

Brandin Cooks is a terrific player and had the Seahawks not got Harvin last year, then yeah Cooks makes sense. With Harvin on the team, Cooks doesn't make sense especially when other areas of need are there.
