just when the doubts start to creep in and you wonder what the teams plan is, they drop CJ Smith into our laps. Thee, CJ Smith, he of the 2 tackles lifetime...enjoy it fellas we needed this one.

It's a 2020 7th round pick, maybe the conditional is whether or not he makes the team. If he doesn't make it, maybe it'll be a 2021 7th round pick or a Starbucks gift certificate?

They're certainly increasing the pile at DB this offseason. Gonna be interesting in camp to see who sticks and who doesn't.

I hope this 'pile of DBs' isn't a pile of steaming poo.

We laughed at the Coleman trade too, but that one turned out OK. Hoping for another quality depth piece out of this one.

I hope most have realized that this off-season is partly about Pete getting back to his core philosophy: active competition for roster spots in training camp. Too many posters here are thinking in terms of depth charts and camp bodies when the goal is to bring the best 10 cornerbacks they can into training camp and then they can be happy with whoever wins the competition regardless of salary level or how they got into the building.

CJ Smith gives them a 7th and Byron Maxwell would be the 8th. Still more room for competition here, via draft, UDFA or maybe another cheap acquisition.

And 2 years away, that's not something you see all the time. Well, we gave up a 7th for Coleman, you never know :2thumbs:
