Nothing wrong with this signing. He made it thru the full season on a team that had a very good defense, so there must be a little talent or he would have been cut.

We didn't sign him for much ( I bet ) and only one year, so no real risk to the Hawks.

These two DLine signings are both proven commodities, neither is an elite presence but they both have been effective and it gives the team a pairing that has played together before. Johnson has had periods of effective pressure on the QB, and Stephen is a stout run defender.

Both signed for less than what the team would have paid for Richardson. Now if they could only figure out how to acquire some draft picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Back-end rotational player. Can't be disappointed because it's unfair to expect anything from this type of move. Though pretty much all of our moves this offseason have been like this.

He will basically reprise his role as Tom Johnson's back up it seems

Johnson is more of 3 tech while Stephen is a NT.

Both are solid against the run, but Johnson has shown in the past he can pressure the QB.

Looks like in 2016 Shamar got 53% of the snaps at DT which made him their #2 DT while Tom Johnson was #3. Then they flipped in 2017. Basically Linvell, Tom, and Shamar.

We got 2/3 of the interior DL of the #2 run D in the league. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised with these guys. Proven commodities that can be solid members of a high performing D will fit in nicely here.

Stephen does move a lot like McDaniels. Does a nice job here staying low, working through a combo block, and then breaking into the backfield for the stop:

I can go along with Wenhawk, when we're strapped for cash, trying to fill holes in the roster, these are sensible signings, although not 'flashy',we have talent on DL despite losing Michael and almost certainly Cliff, these signings show there is a well thought out plan, not just tankiing 2018.
