Question about these signings?

I think the way they have signed Avril and KJ (extending rather then resigning in FA) doesn't that save some cap money by the way it is prorated? I read something about this last year when they resigned ADB. Is this right or am I really that old?

Proration refers to the signing bonus which will be spread evenly over the life of the contract. We don't know the structure of either of the deals yet. We know that the max value for both is 27 to 28 million for 4 years. Avril has 16 million guaranteed, but we don't yet know how much of that is a signing bonus and how much is base salary.

To put it simply, we don't know the cap implications yet.

I think the cap implication you're thinking of is when a player has a full year remaining on their current deal at the time of the extension like sherman did.

Baldwin was to be a RFA prior to this season. So he would be under contract for the 2014 season. He then signed a 2 year extension putting him under contract for 2014, 2015, and 2016. He got 4.8 million in a signing bonus. He received the money up front. For cap purposes the 4.8 million is prorated over the thee years and counts 1.6 million against the cap.

Your right it was Sherm, that would bode well for Russ and Bobby then if we sign them as each will have a year left..., right?

Thanks for sharing that, hadn't seen it.

Based on what I see, it looks like Wright will have the harder time seeing his final year. Cutting wright before his last season saves us more than cutting avril would, and LBs are typically viewed as easier to replace.

^ depends on how the guaranteed money is setup but most likely you are correct

It also lowers Wrigts average if you exclude the last year. Really have to see the guaranteed money to figure that out though

Wow, these cap hits are ez peezy.

These deals could be 4 year deals if these guys are playing out of their minds.

But if not that last year can be renegoiated or cut altogether.

This FO rocks.
