Is Matthews a viable big man option next year? He looked great climbing the ladder and making those catches. With some coaching up could we see him playing a bigger part in the offense next year?

I thought he was extremely impressive in the SB. If he can continue to build on that performance he could play a big role for us next year.

I really would have liked to seen him instead of Lockette for the last play too. As big as he is at 6'5 I bet he catches that ball over Butler.

there had to have been reason why he didn't play all year and was released twice. Maybe he figured things out sometime in the playoffs, but more than likely it was just an outlier. Kinda like David Tyree against the Pats.

There's also got to be a reason they keep bringing him back. He's still raw and has a lot of upside. Whether he realizes that potential is yet to be seen, but he's a project worth the work IMO

Confidence is everything and I think he gains that from his big game..Sure he's gotten cut but a lot of great players have before they find their game..I'm not saying he will be great but he sure has the tools..As for that last play I think he should have been in there..He would be able to reach out and snatch it in with those long arms no problem..

He was the one thing no one expected us to have.. Now they know. I hope he is the Real deal but I would not put all the marbles on that...

Have we had "one game miracle" receivers in the past? Yes. Could Matt prove to be a "miracle find"? Yes.

The real question is, "Will he work his butt off this off season to make himself worthy of the position?"

He has had two big games in a row now, if you consider recovering that onside kick against Green bay a big play.

I doubt he would have scored against Browner, who Belichick would have been forced to deploy against him, so I would have lined Matthews up near a sideline to drag Browner away from the rushing routes for Marshawn.

I would have deployed Baldwin there too to pull Revis there too. Route Lockette deep enough to occupy a safety on the right side.

Then run Marshawn left, or fake to him, and Wilson rolls right, and runs or throws to a tight end.

Matthews has produced on special teams since he returned and became active.

With the Seahawks, I think production on special teams is a bit of a prerequisite for any role playing specialist.

I loved the signing of Matthews last off season. I thought a 6'5 receiver with percy and DougieFresh was going to put us over the top. I was disappointed when he did not make the 53 after pre-season. However I think this off season will be much different for him. After getting a taste of the Super Bowl and really showing what he could do I think it will motivate him for next year.

He was a contributor on special teams so that helps in keeping him. I've said in another thread, If Matthews can develop into that possession big body receiver in the red zone i'm ok watching Kearse go.

I think of him as a tall man rather than a big man, since Browner can press him at the line of scrimmage.

He's not a particularly fluid or impressive athlete but not many 6,5 guys are. I very much doubt he'll ever be a starter on our offense either, but he looks smart enough to stick around. He obviously offers some mismatch ability and red zone presence plus you have to love a guy making the most of his opportunities (who can also catch the ball well).

What I liked about him most in the Super Bowl was his 45 yard catch, it was a really smart play. Firstly he created instant separation by using his length to take a huge stride, he's pretty much past the corner in a couple of strides before the guy can even turn round. Matthews isn't the quickest so once he gets up to top speed he does a nice job of boxing the corner out and 'owning the redline', this was evident on his first big catch too, and even though he didn't get any separation, he left room for Russ to put the ball on the outside where only he could make a play.

Matthews was owning the redline in his snaps, which is a big thing for the Seahawks. It doesn't necessarily take a big guy to do it, Golden wasn't bad, but it makes sense for us to utilize Matthews in this manner. He's not going to master a route tree, but if we're getting the right looks then he can be a guy to cause some matchup nightmares a few times a game. Like he did on Sunday.

Playing special teams is huge as well. Kevin Norwood's got a big 6 months ahead of him, I'm not sure his place on the 53 is safe next year. I'm assuming we'll be bringing in at least another two receivers in the draft/fa.

Really? You thought an unproven receiver from Canada that very few people had even heard of was going to put us over the top just because he's tall?

He did make some great plays in the Super Bowl and looks like a good bet to make the team next year. He did display some great ability to catch the ball at his highest point, but he was also going up against overmatched corners and Wilson put the ball in the absolute perfect spots for him. It all depends on if he can develop his route running, and make plays over good corners. Maybe we have something with him.

^^^^ Yeah, if anything he showed really impressive body control for someone of his size.

On the one hand he abused the pants off of Kyle Arrington, but on the other hand he then got totally shut down by Malcolm Butler, another rookie UFA who in all likelihood also may have played the best game of his entire life in the Super Bowl.

Matthews in the Super Bowl looked like Mike Williams in 2010.

He gives our "D" a tall guy to practice against.

I think one of the reasons he was successful in the SB, is that he was unexpected.
I hope that he continues to evolve. Could be a tall guy @ great value.

No doubt I'm rooting for him. I'd like to see more of that potential. Let's hope he works really hard in the of season on his route running.
