I absolutely don't see the Hawks spending big money in FA but I absolutely could see them bringing in a veteran pass rusher to join the rotation like they tried last year with Jared Allen once the first wave of crazy money gets blown. I think it's a legitimate need to ensure the defense keeps rolling. Even more so given our schedule next year has some pretty good QB's on the list: Rodgers, Romo, Roethlisberger, Stafford, and Flacco not to mention the expected returns of Palmer and Bradford in division. Even Cutler can give you trouble if you give him time to throw.

Potential cap cuts who kind of fit that role are Trent Cole of Philly and Tamba Hali of KC. Maybe Justin Tuck from Oakland.

In addition, there are some UFA's who may not get the money they expect and could be willing to sign a short-term prove it deal on a great defense and legit SB contender. Brian Orapko, Jason Pierre-Paul, Jerry Hughes, or Derrick Morgan come to mind.

Jason Pierre Paul is a candidate for a classic "prove it" deal. A couple of down years prior to this year, when he played really well. But was this year the outlier, and will he regress to the mean, or was it a sign of things to come.

I could see him here on a one year Michael Bennett type of deal.

For the money I saw a couple names that sound like they could be fits for us. I don't remember the names but maybe someone else could help me.

One was an interior DT from Pittsburgh, and the other was Possibly Brian Orakpo or a DE from Miami.

I actually like our interior DL with Mebane and Hill back. Adding another viable DE allows them to then slide Bennett inside with Hill, Avril, and this guy (maybe Marsh). It's really replacing Clemons role in this alignment that they played with down the stretch in 2013 (McDonald was in Hill's slot).

Do we even consider bringing Kevin Williams back? A year older, but wow was he big time for us

Would he even want to come back?

I'd have no issue with Williams coming back assuming he wants to and the price is right.

Honestly... I don't see us having a shot at getting any decent players at a bargain as long as we have Bevell as an OC, offense or defense. Offense??? Who wants to play for a garbage OC with simplistic passing plays, poorly designed screens and horrible situational playcalling? Defensively??? Who wants to play for a defense that can't win games because the OC gives the games away with boneheaded plays at the end? I won't be surprised at all to see Lynch hold out and demand a trade and I won't be surprised to see Wilson hold off on an extension if we keep Bevell. The man takes no accountability for his decisions and he throws players under the bus when his boneheaded playcalling loses games. If PC & JS want to have any hope of salvaging the locker room and picking up some pieces in FA to keep the team intact, they have to let go of Bevell. This isn't knee-jerk reaction either. Bevell's playcalling has been under fire for the last two years. The last play he called in the Super Bowl was just the cherry on the top. If we fire him, I'll guarantee their isn't any other NFL team that'll pick him up and I'd be surprised if any team in the collegiate ranks picked him up as a coach.

I predict that Williams returns if his body feels like it. He is still hungry for a Superbowl, provided some pressure on Brady, provides veteran leadership, and is a bargain at about 2.2M.

I would like to see Williams back. Even with marsh I would still like to see us get one more DL and DE

Right now we have: mebane, mcdaniel, HIll, Williams, Dobbs

DE: Avril, Bennett, Schoefield, Marsh Hybrid: Irvin

We need at least one more on each to have a rotational line that rivals what we had in 13'. This year was to much having Bennett inside and out and not being able to generate the pass rush up front once mebane and Hill went out really hurt us.

I'll say it all off season A healthy Seahawks squad is a dominate Squad. We need the depth to keep that dominance.

I don't see the Hawks picking up many , if any FA's this offseason. If anything, the draft / UDFA route is the key for restocking and there's also practice squad poaching / CFL bargain basement shopping that will be the key that could add depth in 2015. The Hawks are going to be spending big money this offseason to keep the players they want as well as extend RW's deal. This is the year we all knew was coming, quality established FA's will not be flocking to Seattle this offseason and it will have nothing to do with the outcome of the SB or coordinators. It's all about the money.

Interior pressure is needed more so than outside.

I like the upside of Marsh and KPL in pass rush roles.

I think the Seahawks should try to re-sign OBS bc no learning curve and I think hes still growing into his potential as a down linemen.

If not OBS, I like the thought of taking cheap flyers on Derrick Morgan and/or Brandon Graham and seeing if one of them can stick.

I think we can definitely count on getting some type of talented player to come in on a one year deal, either as a prove it(Bennett, Avril), or last chance at a ring (K. Williams, Winfield).

Who it will be, I have no clue. I'd guess we'll find out a couple weeks after free agency starts.

Even if we can get Williams back, this is a very thin interior rotation. I'd like to get another veteran, or use a high pick on an interior lineman.

Danny Shelton would be awesome, dude's a beast..........but he's projected to go top 10.

The premise of my post was really focusing on the pass rush front 4 look where Bennett can slide inside as a rush DT but I sure wouldn't mind seeing a DE and DT drafted or adding a reasonably priced veteran.

I agree with JTB.....

To get to the bottom of this the issue really was health. When our D-Line is healthy we are really only missing one position when it comes to rushing the passer......LEO. Our best pass rush line looks something like this.......

LDE: Avril
LDT: Bennett
RDT: Hill
RDE: ?

Marsh can rotate in at a DT position, as well. We really have not replaced Clemons since he left. If I'm the Seahawks I look to draft a LEO type pash rusher that they can develop and look to sign a veteran pass rush specialist that they can bring in on an inexpensive one year deal.

JPP? Any other pass rush specialist types in the FA market?
