Tune to NFL Network, right now!!!

That is, if you are interested in the story of Rick Mirer, being told during the top-10 NFL busts of all time.

I'm tuning in just to see the footage of Hawks playing in my favorite uniform color scheme.

Enjoy!

Dude had a 12 year career as a quality backup and made a lot of money. While I don't think his career matched his draft status, I have a hard time imagining a guy with that long a career is one of the top busts of all time.

Is he considered a bust for the Seahawks or the Bears? Didn't the Seahawks get 2 first round draft picks for him?

He played for 4 or 5 teams so, probably all of them.

I thought it was just one, but lemme Google it...

Definitely not a bust for the Seahawks. On top of the return they got for him, they also got a nice rookie season out of him. Seahawks alone have drafted at least 10 players who should be considered bigger busts than Mirer.

I didn't catch the date that top-10 episode was put together, but it probably should be updated.

Mirer's decline for the Hawks was more about the team/coaching not having an answer for how defenses attacked Mirer, than it was about his talent. Sure, he had trouble throwing left and over the formation, but there was simply no offensive guru-ism going on at all.

He might have done well in a read-option scheme.

He's from nearby Goshen,IN..I was never really impressed with him at Notre Dame and was pissed when the Hawks took him..That rookie year shocked me but after that he was what I thought he was..Saw him on local tv for Irish pre game show and he looks like a drunk..Made me wonder how hard was he working on his game when he played vs partying because I heard a lot of stories of him being at this bar ,that bar or this party ect .Somehow he made it 12 yrs..I dunno how but yeah he was a bust in my book..

1997: Rick Mirer, the second pick overall in the 1993 NFL Draft, is traded to the Bears for a first-round draft choice that the club uses to trade up to the third spot in the ’97 Draft to select Shawn Springs.
