Would you be sad to see Irvin traded for a player or draft pick? He is coming due for a paycheck soon, if we don't intend to sign him this would be about as peak value we will ever get for him?

Don't we hold an option for him for the 2016 season also? I thought all first rounders came with that option. My guess is we resign him next offseason to a deal a little smaller than KJ's. The cap goes up a good chunk again next year. I heard like 11 million from some sources. That leaves room to resign Irvin. Hes improved a lot this year.

He's turning into a really good player, I hope they extend him next year.

He really is valuable at the SAM. But if you listen to his interviews it's clear he wants a pass rusher role. I think we can retain him long term, but it may take the market to convince him of that.

e would never trade someone we groomed from raw to starter unless there was some glaring issue.

irvin will resign for average money. His role isnt near valuable for anything more then 7mil a year.

If we are talking trades then it would depend what the other side was offering.

Paul Allen just fielded a call from York wanting to trade Baalke and a hobo for Irvin and some Grey Poupon.

How about a 2nd round pick from Atlanta?

Marquise Lee or Allen Robinson from Jax?

If he plays out his contract and it doesn't work out we'll get a compensatory pick for him when he signs elsewhere. Might as well hang on to him as long as he's playing on his relatively cheap rookie deal.

I like him, I hope he has a long career in Seattle.

Irvin is a freak athlete, works hard, and still has plenty of upside to be developed. We need to find a way to keep him. He's an important part of what we do defensively. In Pete and John I trust. I am concerned that his value might be so high we can't pay him and lose him.

Are you assuming this or did you do the research?

As it stands rounding up, Seahawks have in cap space per OTC.

2015: 15m
2016: 44m
2017: 70m
2018: 130m

Its why the speculation of Wilson waiting a year to cash in is important. The cash flow opens up down the road. And its much better because some of those players won't see the final year.

Seahawks probably could re-sign/extend realistically:

Wilson 20 apy
Okung 8.5 apy
Sweezy 4.5 apy
Wagner 8.5 apy
Irvin 6.5 apy

That adds up to 48m.

In 2017, 48m still leaves leaves the team 22m. Closer to 30 if Lynch retires.

In 2016, if those players came at half cost which usually is the handing out signing bonus. The Seahawks will still have 20m to spend before making cuts.

In 2016, it's safe to assume they'd all come at half the apy cost

Marshawn would trade him for a pack of Skittles, so what does that tell ya?

The old Madden "trade them with one year left" trick.

Works in video games, not in real life.

We're already thin at D-end, so this is a no brainer question for me. Keep him.

I also like players in prove it years for their next contract, and that's what Irvin will be in 2015. He's gotta bust his ass even harder if he wants to put up the numbers that's going to get him a big deal here or elsewhere.

Maybe we could trade him for Curry? Is Curry still in the league?
