Keith Myers wrote today how the Hawks aren't desperate at center b/c they have Lewis. I thought his play was okay for a back-up but I didn't think he made the adjustments required for a starter. He's still learning the position so maybe he has a high ceiling.

Lewis is a far superior athlete to Unger. If Lewis can improve on the technical and intellectual aspects of his game, there is no reason not to believe that the Seahawks don’t have their long-term answer on center already on the roster.

I think he competes with a draft pick for the job. I doubt Wisneski is headed our way, but maybe.

I concur. I think he's going to want too much money and they can't justify the difference in talent with the difference in pay scale. I'm sure it's next to impossible to figure these things out, but they must have some kind of scale where Player A is only worth "X" amount of dollars more than player B.

The formula would be complicated taking in to account the difference in yards (IIRC we were +1 yard per run with Unger in), the amount of cap dollars available (we're getting pretty tight so Lewis looks very good right now), and the potential of the player (they may or may not believe that Lewis with his athleticism is better at Center than say Wiz).

They have the time now to plug him in as the starter and get him up to speed. According to .com he has 2 years experience and come from Texas A&M, a somewhat under the radar school that provides some good players.

I found some interesting articles about Patrick. One says he's good at pass blocking and has quick feet, the other says he's good at run blocking and has slow feet so take it for what it's worth.

The video of him snapping to Manziel and blocking for Christine Michael actually looks decent. He seems to get lost a little at the second level but that's probably a lack of playing time.

Right or wrong I think that because we have Russell and Beast mode that the office feels like they don't have to go over board attempting to sign replacements for the offensive line.

The Hawks have 5 guys back who started together at some point. That's better than most years. I expect the Hawks to draft a tackle and a center but only because they have a lot of picks and this draft is deep at OL.

The team was considering releasing Unger because of his contract. The fact they could move on and he gets to keep his money for another year is a win/win. With an emergency outlet like Jimmy the OL won't miss Unger as much as fans think. The team went 6-0 when he was out. The team thinks enough of Lewis and or this draft that they can move on from Unger and Jeanpierre says a lot.

I believe they will draft a center, or at least a potential center candidate like Ali Marpet, to compete with Lewis for the spot. At the very least we will need someone to be the backup even if Lewis is the guy.

I'd like to see them sign 3 OL guys and let them battle it out, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Lewis was our starter this year and it wouldn't concern me one bit either, he will only get better and last seasons production from him was far from terrible!

I don't see any reason why Lewis can't improve especially if he has the job before the first OTA's and camp.

No doubt it will be billed as a competition for the spot, but it's his job to lose.
