Seahawks GM, John Schneider hopes to get the deal with Russell Wilson done soon. They are in phase 2 of the free agency. But, they both want to "win long-term." Plus, Shannon Drayer, the Mariners insider reports live from Spring Training in Peoria. Will the starting line up debut in today's game?

Need To Know: John Schneider says the Seahawks expect to get a deal done with Russell Wilson this offseason. Erasmo Ramirez got shelled in Cactus League ball yesterday, killing his trade value. The Seahawks got 4 compensatory picks awarded to them yesterday. John Schneider says the Hawks have tough decisions ahead, which is actually good news for Seahawks fans. Plus - Say What?!?

John Clayton joins us live from the owners meetings in Arizona and explains why it seems news of Michael Bennett wanting out of Seattle was overblown. The veteran's NFL combine was held over the weekend and even though it did more to end a player's career than help it, Jim likes it. In "Sweeping the Dial" the guys talk about how the NCAA Tournament is great because of stories like Ron Hunter of Georgia State, Chris Borland leaving the NFL, and the veteran combine.

Seahawks GM, John Schneider says that Russell Wilson's contract is getting close. Schneider says they have talked to his people, and are in phase 2 of free agency. Plus, he is still not over the Superbowl loss.

Winning championships increases Russell's sales of merchandize without increasing the salary cap, thus freeing salary money to pay better players to win more championships.

By maximizing his endorsement income he could accept the league minimum salary and still lead the NFL players in total income, and he is smart.

Bingo!

Watching NFLN last night a little clip between a segment and a commercial had 3 QBs in succession on the screen. 1st was Russell Wilson, then behind him was Andrew Luck with Aron Rodgers 3rd. That says a lot about the current popularity of the 3 QBs.

Russell Wilson wants to own a team one day, he's not going to get that money from an NFL Payroll, he needs to work his popularity outside of the confines of the cap in order to increase his net worth that much.

He could learn from former player, and current Panthers owner Jerry Richardson too.

Unfortunately this is not true. There are rules with endorsements and the salary cap. The player has to take the "average" payment for his endorsments or the team will take a salary cap hit. Those of you wishing that RW will get paid through other means to avoid the cap hit will be sorely disappointed. he can however have as many endorsments as he can handle. But thats a double edged sword, as it would take away his football time to go handle that. There is not a way of avoiding the looming large cap hit that RW will incur on the team.

The goose attack made me laugh out loud!

I think Trey sounded a little embarrassed/miffed about it as if he had farted and Salk was bringing attention to the fact. :p An unexpected noise emanating from his phone.

He said he could think of 28 teams who'd trade two 1st round picks for Russell. What four teams does everyone think wouldn't try to get him? My thought was Green Bay, Indy, Carolina and Detroit. A lot of other teams are set right now at QB, but their guy is close to the end of their career (Denver & NE immediately come to mind). Therefore those teams would be happy to get Russ.

I doubt very seriously Hawk fans want him to follow in Richardson's footsteps. Richardson quit football at a younger age than Russ is now after winning the 1959 NFL Championship with the Colts, making all of his money in the fast food business.

You bet!

It takes more than money and/or celebrity status too, as Donald Trump, Rush Limbaugh, and Bon Jovi have recently discovered.
