Doesn't really mean he won't sign, just that he has an insurance policy on himself.

Russell isn't a dummy but his agent is hell-bent on getting him to FA, no matter the risk. It's effective in baseball, where injuries are less common and rarely as serious, but that is gonna have to be a massive, and expensive, insurance policy indeed to replace the amount of coin he'd get by just working out a deal now.

His agent is doing him a disservice.

I dunno, man. Chances are pretty high that the Seahawks will win another Lombardi this year, and that just makes his price tag go up, even if we do Franchise him for 2 seasons, he still stands to make bank. I have absolutely no issue with Russell doing this. The FO shouldn't have tried to low-ball him if they didn't want this happening.

agreed.

If that's your way of saying Schefter could be wrong, a FA signing and a guy taking an insurance policy on himself are two very different things

Credible link on the "low-ball" aspect?

A reported FA signing and saying a player WILL play out his rookie contract are two very similar things.

What the.....what?

I cannot find anything any place on this but if true great if not pretty much makes anything Schefter says in question but never fully bought anything he said anyway. He reported the hawks and Wilson were close to a deal months ago.

Never said he's playing out his rookie deal. Said he's playing this last season with an insurance policy on himself.

I don't have the link, but weren't multiple sources reporting that 4 yrs/80M was the offer the Seahawks put out there?

yes

agreed piss poor planning by the FO makes you wonder if bowing down to Lynch caused some of this. Also makes you wonder if they got Graham for Wilson or the next QB so better weapons no need for as good or expensive a QB. If true a huge gamble, if they are right all is good if they are wrong all is bad and they may cost themselves their jobs.

That was what was reported by Danny O'Neal according to sources, then many other articles cited him.

Most recently John Clayton has offered up 87 over 4, but that was a prediction rather than a scoop.

I simply don't care about Wilsons contract. We have him this year. And if he doesn't sign after that then 2 years of franchising

The Seahawks are willing to offer an extension that is in line with the deals other top-shelf quarterbacks have gotten, but not at another level. They'll give Wilson way more certainty and guarantees than the Dolphins offered Ryan Tannehill and a quicker path back to the bargaining table than the Panthers gave Cam Newton. In fact, Seattle's offer is in the same neighborhood of what Ben Roethlisberger got from Pittsburgh and could wind up in the same cul de sac, but the Seahawks so far haven't been willing to bankroll a new development up on the Quarterback Plateau.

http://mynorthwest.com/1036/2772007/Russell-Wilsons-contract-standoff-is-about-Seahawks-structure

Roethlisberger is making an average of $21.8 million per year. If O'Neil's report is accurate, then the Seahawks have come up from their original 4 year, $80 million offer.

Both sides are still talking. As long as they are still talking, nothing has been pushed to next year yet. Maybe it will happen, but this is only the latest salvo from Wilson's side, not the end of negotiations.

"Seattle QB Russell Wilson will play last season of his deal w/ insurance policy worth millions in case of career-ending injury, per sources."

Notice how it doesn't say anything along the lines of "if no deal is reached".

Also, it's only his last year if there is no new deal.

actually at best 1 year of tagging we canno9t afford 32 mil for one year with our cap and that is what it would be the 2nd tag year I am not sure we can afford the 25M+ for the 1st tag.
