Talk about a total crushing of your rivals spirit:

http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/ ... 2_19320625

The Seattle Seahawks need a cheap answer to all the high priced signings they have had to make over the past year and former 49ers' outside linebacker Aldon Smith could be the answer.

It what seemingly seems to a perfect situation, Smith can't stay out of trouble, while the Seahawks do their best work with troubled player.

According to Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com, the team may pursue Smith.

With the expected departure of Bruce Irvin in 2016, Smith could lay low and return late in the season and become a tremendous value to the team with an affordable price.

In his four-year career, Smith has 152 tackles, 44 sacks, and five forced fumbles.

Florio writes:

'Still, with great pass rushers a rarity and with coaches, General Managers, and owners hoping to compete for championships, a potential contender has to be thinking about what a focused and eligible Smith could do to make a good team into a potential Super Bowl team. Intriguing landing spots for Smith include other teams in the NFC West, like the Seahawks and Cardinals. Or other potential NFC contenders, like the Packers, Lions, Vikings, Saints, Falcons, Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants. AFC teams like the Patriots, Steelers, Colts, and Chargers also could be intrigued.'

Of course we could. But unless he's making visible rehab progress no team is going to touch him.

The article says that teams COULD be interested and lists "intriguing landing spots" and that list includes like half the league.

Because of the aggressive way Pete and John churn their roster and take fliers on players, the Hawks are ALWAYS on the hot list of teams interested in players.

But no way in hell Smith comes here unless for some reason he doesn't sign with another team and he's available next off season.................AND we know what Smith's suspension from the league is.

Why pursue him? Don't the cops already have him in custody?

Let's see how long his suspension is for if he is found guilty of any of his latest extra curricular fun. At this point I'd suspect his football career is on hold until his latest charges are dealt with and that won't be quick.

If he is found guilty he could as well be facing some jail time for breach of probation or for a 4th DUI offence over the last 3 years. California has a year long jail sentence mandated for such a situation.

I suppose it's possible the Hawks could sign Smith but the contract would need to be very conditional and would as well depend upon seeing him buy in to substance counselling while staying clear of alcohol. A good bit of due diligence will be necessary for this player.

The guy has serious issues he needs to address before returning to the league.

I think even the poorly run NFL teams realise that.

AND we know what Smith's suspension from the league is.

I don't see how it's anything less than the whole season. This is his 5th arrest, and 3rd DUI. He was given 9 games last season, and that was taking into account some already self-imposed time away for rehab, and steps he'd taken to get right. Goodell will (and should) throw the book at him here. Best thing that could happen to Aldon.

Yep, plus as with Hardy there are just too many desperate teams out there in need of DE's for Smith to be had at a bargain............which is what would have to happen for him to come here with how tight against the cap we are right now.

I fully agree Aldon has issues but The 9er franchise is a total mess. For all the people who piled on Jim Harbaugh, I think it is telling that all those players left the organization after he did. Aldon didn't have a lot of leadership there, many of those players were partying with him instead of holding him accountable. This team gives troubled players second chances and depending on the length of his suspension, the Hawks might be the only team that can help him and would take that kind of chance.

Taking a chance on somebody with a troubled background is a good strategy if you already have a core group of players with leadership skills as well as a strong coaching staff. This only works in limited numbers, however, and adding too many immature players will lead to a JailBlazers scenario. There's a reason that the Patriots and Seahawks have only occasionally added a troublemaker.

There's also a big difference between a player with one big controversy in their past and a guy like Aldon Smith who has multiple incidents per year. It's not a bargain to sign a player if they are unlikely to be eligible for any of your games that season.

The only reason he'd land here is because it'd give him two games a year in which to kill Kaepernick - in 2017, when he finally comes back from the second suspension he's bound to earn after yet another moronic and criminal episode where someone was nearly killed.

The question I have is if Aldon was a good teammate?

Sounds like Smith is a good bet to be suspended a full year after all the offenses he's racked up. If Goodell suspends Smith for 2015 and the sentence is served and done with before week 1 of 2016, it would make sense for Seattle to kick the tires next offseason.

Based on this past offseason, I'd say the odds are pretty high that Aldon ends up in Dallas.

Why sign Aldon Smith... Seahawks need to get Clark and Marsh experience and they have Bruce Irvin as that 5th guy who looks great.

Instead of signing Aldon Smith for so and so money... They could give that cap to Kam and get him in here.

Yes, Aldon Smith the human being needs to make saving his life and getting a real handle on his addiction his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd priorities. As for signing him this year? I'd do it, just to lock him up for when his suspension lifts. Of course, all the obvious clauses and and what not would be in place as well, but if he realized that signing a min 2 year deal, with some incentives, was the best way to get back into the league's good graces while providing some small sense of stability, why not? He's only 26 next year, right?

It seems like very low risk and very high reward, assuming the locker room copes like professionals.

No way should we pursue All-done.

Why pay for trouble?

Think that we would have learned our lesson with Harvin.
