SUMMARY: There were a lot of explosive plays today. He's working on trusting his receivers because they do a great job of attacking the ball. Jermaine Kearse continues to improve every year and has had a phenomenal camp. Kearse, along with Doug Baldwin, are leading the WR group and helping to teach the young receivers like Tyler Lockett. Kevin Smith and Kasen Williams are both doing a great job. Smith said to him, "Once you see those [University of Washington] Huskies, you've just got to throw it them!" Smith did not play a lot of football in high school, instead focusing on basketball. He's only been playing football for five or six years, so his talent level is just going to continue to improve in the near future. His connection with Jimmy Graham is on point.
The team is looking forward to playing on the road for the first time this year. They expect it to be extremely loud, as it always is at Arrowhead Stadium. Russell recalls starting his first game as a Seahawk in the preseason of his rookie year against the Kansas City Chiefs. You learn to love the game as it is, which includes the bumps and bruises along the way. We lost to the Chiefs last year in a tough battle to the end. The goal, as always, is to go 1-0.
Russell has full confidence in his offensive line to get the job done. Justin Britt is playing some at left guard. Garry Gilliam is playing some at right tackle. It's a long season, so you always have to have versatility on your offensive line with guys ready to step in for other players. Tom Cable does a great job at getting the offensive line ready for that. Russell worked hard this off-season to get stronger and faster, in particular strengthening his legs, because that affects how you throw the football. He continues to work hard on any throw that he misses.
