Interesting . . . we don't have anything close to the kind of cap space he is likely looking for. But maybe a one-year "prove it" deal for close to the veteran minimum to win a Super Bowl and stick it to Chip Kelly, parlaying it into a long-term deal somewhere else? Seems unlikely he would turn down more money elsewhere at his age and recent injury history.

Comes down to being a ring chaser i would assume. Other teams can offer more money.

Mathis makes sense from both a scheme and need angle. But he seems to be holding out hope that he will receive another big contract. Not sure Seattle would be willing - or able - to offer him more than a Vet minimum.

Probably his hesitance to come and visit is Seattle has already informed him the max they would pay him

Some say he might not visit afterall.
Probably knows the Hawks can't offer competitive $$

Even if they release Kearse? That would give them about 7 mill in cap space. Say they give Mathis 5 mill, would 2 mill in cap space be alright?

Aren't all players chasing rings?

He wants to get paid but no one will pay him. 1-year prove it deal can go a long way to getting him paid by someone in 2016.

He ain't taking a "prove-it" deal. He's got nothing to prove. If a one year deal for low money is all he can get, he's better off sitting out the season. A one year deal for decent money, sure. I think guard has become a big enough need where we have to think about cutting someone to get somebody.

Waste of time. Suppose we sign him, does Britt go back to right tackle? What in the hell are the Hawks doing unless.... he can play center.
