Consistently we are playing to the competition. Precisely like today, we have a significant lead and give it up with conservative play. Plenty of time and possessions to put it away.

Exactly what? That argument is ONLY used when a team with a superior record plays down to a team with an inferior one. And this game was on the road no less.

If you didn't realize, be had a 17 point lead going into the 4th with conservative play the rest of the game.

We beat the Bears with Jimmy Clausen, possibly the worst QB on an NFL roster, and a soon to be 0-5 Lions team. Our offense can't score, and leaves our defense out to dry by refusing to sustain drives.

The Bengals are a very good football team. We're damn lucky we're not sitting at 1-4 right now.

If you believe the Bengals are a real 5-0 team, then you have to also believe that we're a real 2-3 team.

The team that executed better for 60+ minutes won the game today, and because they actually played 60+ minutes at a higher level than we did, they deserved to win it as well.

Those are both the records of the teams. What's not real about them?

As for the OP, I generally find the "playing down to the competition" statement to be something that is said by a fan who ignores the complexities and closeness of the NFL game, but to use it in this context is really funny.
