In hindsight, it really doesn't feel like we have had the lead in the 4th quarter every game. I say that because the terrible "we're going to lose" gut feeling usually sets in about the start of the 3rd quarter, when our prevent D rears its ugly head - coinciding nicely with our easy-to-stall offense.

These numbers are amazing. Every QB we've played has morphed into Joe Montana / Playoff Joe Flacco against us in the 4th quarter. Dalton, Foles, Newton, Stafford included in these numbers...

Jaw-dropping.

What are the 4th Quarter opposing QB stats now? Before today, it was something like 40-48 for 500 yards. Cam was 12-15 for 162 yards in the 4th today.

Disgusting.

What this shows is that this team is good enough but just stupid.

And doing stupid things can be solved by not doing stupid things.

The problem is the people making stupid decisions usually are the last to acknowledge them.

But if we can acknowledge that this offense is failing in every sense of the word and needs to score more than the bare average NFL team, then maybe this team can start winning games instead of hoping not to lose them.

You shouldn't be gritting your teeth trying to hope the other guy stumbles at the finish line. You should be scoring so they cannot catch you even when you slip. This team plays with no urgency and until that is fixed, it will lose.

But it is good enough to beat every team it played this year, INCLUDING the Packers. The problem is that our OC's incompetence makes it much harder on our team, is that solvable? Maybe if we hired someone like Mike Martz as a special consultant or something.....but otherwise no. We need offensive ability and that isn't happening unless Bevell stops being an idiot.

We do dumb things all game long, and it catches up to us. Hell even the damn pass to Lockette was fools gold, we shouldn't have to rely on something that takes so long to develop and relies on our WR jumping on the head of the defender to catch the pass. That dumb thing worked but at least 3 to 13 other dumb things that game did not, and that sank us.

SCORE TOUCHDOWNS. If we do that, we will start winning, it wouldn't matter if the defense gave the opposing team a police escort into the endzone for a TD if we turned around and scored after they did. (You know, like the elite QBs like Brady and Rodgers tend to do when they get behind?)

I thought I was upset right after the game, but since time has moved along I have gotten more and more upset and angry.

The thing that is so darn irritating is that we KNOW they're going to pass and yet both the Bengals and the Panthers are able to keep the chains moving with huge chunks of yardage, primarily to their star tight ends. Yes, Wagz would've been a good addition today, but how are we letting guys like Sanu, Eifert, Ginn and Greg Olsen find so much space when we know they're in desperation mode and HAVE to pass? Those are the moments that Earl and Kam should be licking their chops and pouncing on an interception.

This is exactly what gives me some hope. We're not some bottom feeder getting blown out every game. Whatever the problem is, it's fixable, but it needs to happen NOW.

14 4th Quarter leads lost since 2012. Worst in the NFL. If not for the offense bailing the defense out, they'd have an atrocious record, not back to back SB appearances. This defense cannot hold a lead. And with Pete letting Carpenter and Unger go, this offense can no longer bail the defense out.

The question is, how can a defense be so dominant for three quarters and absolutely worthless for the fourth? Tha'ts not on Richard, it goes all the way back to 2012. That's on Pete. he's the defensive guru.
