Wilson posted a 147.9 rating Sunday ... yet is not in the Top 5 of some stupid grading scale.

Makes sense to me.

I stopped taking PFF seriously back in the 2013 preseason when I watched every offensive play 10 times while charting each offensive lineman's performance. A few days later, somebody at .net posted the PFF ratings for our OL in the game I had charted. The most dominant run blockers in my notes got the worst run blocking grades from PFF and the worst pass protectors got the best pass pro grades from PFF. Pretty much all four preseason games were like this, it happened consistently. Maybe PFF used a JV team in preseason, I dunno, but I was struck by just how ridiculously off base their OL grades were for Seattle that preseason.

A PFF grade is a waste of time for stat driven position like QB anyway. We already have plenty of good and simple stats to evaluate QBs by.

In theory, PFF's system would be very useful for posistions like OL, S, FB or NT since those positions do not have many stats to go by. But PFF ends up with too many 'wtf' grades to make the tool useful even there.

Really, the only position group I've seen them get consistently right is LB, and even then there are some 'wtf' results mixed in.

As for why the grades are so bad so often, my guess is that they suffer from some flawed scoring systems, a lack of subjective consistency due to having multiple reviewers, and having a tired and worn down staff from having to spend so many hours watching so much tape in a short span of time.

I remember how much it killed me just grading the OL for four preseason games, I can't imagine trying to grade every single player in the NFL every week. Even for a theoretical staff of 30 people that would be a lot of work, and then your system would suffer from having 30 different subjective interpretations grading players.

Also, I kind of question any work where fact checking the results is not realistically going to happen. Nobody else is going to chart millions of plays just to tell us that PFF is full of crap. Which makes me wonder if the graders ever mail it in knowing that they'll never actually get called on it on a factual basis, even when the effort produces an insane result.

QB Russell Wilson (+2.4)

– Solid, efficient game for Russell Wilson after finishing with a perfect passer rating on 27 aimed attempts (not counting two throwaways and a batted pass). He didn’t quite match Roethlisberger’s sublime deep passing (three total deep attempts), but was perfect working at intermediate distance, completing all eight passes there for 194 yard and four of his five touchdowns. This was also his second straight game without a turnover-worthy throw.

Okay let me get this straight

Rothesburger
36/55 for 65% complt, 456 yards, 8.3 ypa, 1 td 2 ints, 82.1 QB rating 5 carries 18 yards 3.6 ypa

Wilson
21/30 for 70% complt, 345 yards, 11.5 ypa, 5 tds, 0 int, 147.9 qb rating, 14 yards rushing 3.5 ypa

And Ben gets a higher PFF rating

Lets go further
Stafford
27/38 71% complt, 337 yards, 8.9 ypa, 5 tds, 137.8 Qb rating, 2 carries 13 yards 6.5 ypa

Really and he got the high score

Further

Rivers
29/43 67% complt, 300 yards, 7 ypa, 4 tds, 118.4 QB rating 5 carries 9 yards 1.8 ypa

Fitzpatrick
22/37 59% complt%, 277 yards, 7.5 ypa, 4 tds, 118.9 QB rating 5 carries, 21 yards 4.2 ypa

Hass
26/42 62% complt, 315 yards, 7.5 ypa, 2 tds, 100.8 QB rating, 3 carries -3 yards -1 ypa

Okay this is proof PFF is worthless there is no way Wilson should have the 7th best score it should be worse case 2nd and you can easily argue 1st

I couldn't take them seriously after they gave Aaron Rodgers an -0.8 grade after he posted 24/35 333yds 5TD 0INT 138.5 Passer rating.

By comparison, Hass did 26/42 315yds 2TD 0INT 100.8 Passer rating and got a +3.6 grade.

And what's that crappy QB rating ESPN uses, QBR? That one sucks as well and they force all their analysts to use it. That channel gets so far up its own ass sometimes

Just for shits and giggles, what grading system do you use again to justify your arguments against Wilson's Oline and WR corps.

They probably knocked him down for throwing the pass that tore Jimmy's patella tendon.

Of course they graded him down because Wilson was taking adderall injected into his IVs
