Ever since the draft I have had a fair amount of interest in Goodley. When the Hawks signed him to their practice squad, I went and re-watched his tape, and the same thoughts I had before the draft came back to me. He looks like a running back that someone ill-advisedly converted to a WR. Almost every problem I see from him stems from the WR side of his play, and not with what he does once he has the ball in his hand. So my question is, do any of you see the same thing, and with the rate that this franchise "converts" players, do you think it would be a possibility? It seems like it would be a less challenging conversion than taking a DT and making him and OT, which they have done several times.

You'd need to ask yourself if his skill set would be beneficial to invest that time over a player who has played RB their whole life to make a roster spot on the 53 worth it. The Hawks don't seem to have any trouble finding RBs with the physical skills for the position. The issues are mostly mental.

He is on the practice squad, which isn't really a developmental program (Though players do emerge from it). So you need to have the flexibility to teach him a new position while he still shows his worth in mimicking opposing players at practice.

I see him as having a really unique skill set for us. We utilize Fred Jackson as a specialist player at RB. Providing excellent 3rd down value for us as a protector and receiver. Goodley could be a similar kind of player for us -- although pass pro would have to develop. Certainly he'd be a valuable mismatch against a linebacker as a receiver. Sort of similar to how Dion Lewis was used by the Patriots -- although Lewis is an everydown type player.

But the comparison is still valid. The Patriots like to have several different types of backs. Whether it's Lewis or White right now. And having a RB who can be that 5th receiver has a lot of value. Converting 3rd downs is such a key element that good offenses must be adept at.

Jackson is great at that role. But at his age -- that can't be expected to continue forever. Seattle may have another year to develop Goodley to be that kind of impact situational player.
