Thanks, great article.

The deal w/the option is it takes a special type of quarterback to run it because it isn't just predicated on the QB's ability to run but an ability to make split-second decisions. In a different type of option former UW quarterback Marcus Tuiasosopo had an uncanny ability to lateral to the tailback at the very last second before he was tackled. You really have to have the instinctual ability to make the defender commit to be really effective at that type of option.

Unfortunately for us at UW, we ignored the UW tradition of stand-in-the-pocket pro-style QB's after Tuiasosopo and tried to develop option QB's who didn't have Tuiasosopo's instincts. That was a dismal failure and was the start of the Husky's slide from prominence.

Russell Wilson has that same instinctual ability albeit in a different way. It doesn't look like he is doing much but he is keenly aware of where the defender(s) is committing. I don't think he is given enough credit for how really good he is at that.

Thanks for posting such a timely article.

Looking forward to seeing how Trevone Boykin fits in at this point in time with the Seahawk style of option football.
