Cool breakdown thanks for sharing.

Stunts were something that were very effective with the holmgren administration. Bryce fisher, grant winstrom and rocky Bernard ran this a lot, and got lots of sacks off it.

I haven't really seen stunt rushing work very often, or even run often under Carroll. Glad to see them take advantage of the rookie Tunsil

I hadn't realized that Clark played such a pivotal role in that play. His forced double team is what freed Marsh.

Also just noticed that Marsh actually dives and sells out at the end of the play to try and knock the ball free. He could have done so sooner, but timed it up so that he'd arrive with his diving swat right when Tannehill would be trying to throw the ball away. Heady play.

Also very heady of Clark to see Tannehill flushed and spin to the outside to contain. If he'd only had the presence of mind to slap the ball back in bounds he might have been worth the draft pick. ;) :rumble:

Yeah, I wonder if there was a bit of defensive holding there. ;)

Great execution anyway. The LG allowed himself to get pulled to the outside and the center was focused on the right side of the line, which actually had protection without his help. Marsh shot the gap created by that and he was able to run the QB down with his speed. Just like the DC wrote it up. :)

Bennett and Avril also contributed to the open lane for Marsh. Bennett attracts the double team from the RG and the RT so that Avril's stunt draws the center's attention away from Marsh. Look at the center's head before either end starts their stunt. He is staring at Avril. The play relies on both DTs forcing the double team and the center having to pick one stunt or the other to block, leaving the other side with a free lane to the QB. No surprise he focuses on the side of the line with Bennett and Avril rather than Clark and Marsh. Credit both play design and execution.

Bennett is just too good and sheds the double team to get into the backfield. He recognizes that Marsh has the best angle and chips the LT on his way to the upfield contain on Tannehill.

At that point Clark and Bennett show excellent discipline to shut down the upfield lane for Tannehill, instead of crashing down on him and leaving the potential for a big run should he shed the tackles.

This would be a great play to show to your high school teams. Great display of a disciplined defensive line working together as a team.

It probably wouldn't be as successful if the Hawks weren't in a prevent defense with the linebackers playing off. The center wouldn't have been as willing to sell out on the stunt if he had to worry about a linebacker crashing the lane.
