Hope his career isn't over. Watching his foot flopping around gave me flashbacks to my last motorcycle wreck, and I'm permanently handicapped...

Never quit!! (But I know the feeling).

Seahawks have a great medical staff, he's in good hands.

If theres blood then isn't it likely to be a compound fracture?

Worse than Theismann in my opinion.

My heart is broken. I don't even care about the rest of this season.

Not worse. Theismann's was a compound fracture.

Wilsons presser said he saw the blood so Locketts prob. was compound.

Agreed. First thing I said when they did the slow-mo:

"That might end his career."

Especially given he's a guy who's entire career is based on flat out speed.

A horrible-horrible injury.

Been a tough year for this team for a number of reasons, and certainly would count injuries among them.

Not even going to lie, it felt like the season ended on that play.

If it does, I'm sure you'll be here to say "I told you so".

End his career? Hopefully not, God that is depressing to think about.

Guy was going to be a pro bowler and main stay for years.

Leon Washington also had a compound fracture. So there is hope he'll play again.

Compound fractures are not career ending. Had a kid have one this year in late September. Cast is off and he's training again. And I saw his bone.

Yes, he has a shot at coming back.

But will he ever be back @100% for a position based so much on his speed?

Gonna be very tough - but not impossible.

Hoping he's able to pull it off. A great talent. His small stature always made the risk of injury front and center.

Wiry little guy who played his guts out on every play.

Big loss for this year's team.

Hard to tell, Butler never had the potential Lockett has, and Washington was strictly a punt returner. They did come back, and I am pretty sure Butler kept his speed when he returned.

That was one of the only other times I've seen an air cast and leg immobilization to this extend though.

Lane's injury to his arm was pretty nasty. Did they have air casts in the 80's?

Nothing about a compound fracture is career ending, unless there are complications like infection

This may be similar to the Theismann injury, but we have made a ton of advances in surgical technique since his injury.

Theismann was 36, and was placed in a cast. Lockett is 24, and will get an intramedullary nail fixation. This will markedly improve his chances of getting good tibial union.

The prognosis for most atheletes is about as bad/good as an ACL tear, and only that bad because of the risk of infection. The way the Lockett plays, an ACL tear would be harder to recover from.

If he heals without an infection setting in, his chances of full recovery are much better than from an ACL.

All of this assumes no associated ligament injury, which we don't know yet.

Great info - thank you.
