Not going to discuss who or what position should be drafted, but I desperately hope a slightly slightly different approach is taken and possibly trade up to get anew immediate dideference maker.
If this team is as close as people say then a 10 rookie draft class isn't necessary.
If that player doesn't exist I hope we trade draft capital for the difference maker (Joe Thomas or Staley).
Close to 1/3 of this year's roster were rookies.
Just posted a longer version of this as one of three points in the "Airing of Grievances" thread, but I think it's the exact opposite of this. The Hawks don't need a difference maker and need to stop burning picks on high risk/reward moonshots as based on athletic ability. They need to round out their team with average starters and above average depth. Filling out 25 spots on your roster with UDFAs needs to stop being treated as a point of pride and recognized for the problem it is, IMO. The Hawks were bottom third in the league for starters' games lost to injury and bottom quarter of the league for quality starter games lost (the IIT-av measure) and still couldn't overcome that.
They lack talent through the middle and bottom of their roster, not at the top.
^ Exactly, and the biggest failure of the FO, IMO.
Since 2012 (not counting 2016- as it's still a ?), one (1) solid, replacement-level player has been added to the defense through the draft- Clark.
Offense hasn't been much better.
We came out of
2013 with 1: Luke Willson
2014 with 2: Britt, PRich (who both were questioned as busts)
2015 with 2: Lockette (but, see above), Glow (who is still a big ?)
That's disaster-level drafting of contributing bodies and needs to be fixed.
