I wish more than anything that we could have another 2010 type slate of draft picks.

This is what torks me off about AZ. They have a good team but just flubbed it this year and now they have great draft position. Might even be good enough to draft Palmer's replacement.

No worries. They'll blow it again.

I would bet a lot of money that they take some kind of CB/Safety hybrid type player in the first round.

Slot CB/FS hybrid type player is a huge need in my opinion especially after seeing the way defense performed when Earl went out. I think they'd love to find a starter type player that can back up Earl when needed. Someone that gets to play a lot of snaps even when Earl is healthy.

Doesn't matter - it's gonna be a nice, deep draft at every position but QB and OT. (wait, shoot.)

We simply need a serviceable corps of starting tackles. It's obviously an oversimplification but plug those in there and the dynamic on this team changes drastically.

That being said, I do have high hopes for Fant. I think this kid can be something special once he starts identifying his technique. That's insane for a kid like that to be plugged in their considering his history and not mentally check out. That speaks volumes to me and his athleticism is flat out nasty. He needs to expand his knowledge and develop his technique and confidence and I do believe he'll have the Britt treatment, how he was railed for several years and then developed into a hell of a center. Fant will be fine I think.

I honestly think we need to focus on a CB or DE. Time to start plugging in spots for the future. Bennet and Avril are closer to the end the their careers than to the beginnings. And our depth at the secondary is non-existent. Shead I think did fine but Lane's play definitely hurt us. We need that depth in the secondary and to start building up on the pass rush again.

If their is a prospect that can resolve the RT issue though since Gilliam regressed from last year, then we throw the kitchen sink at trying to resolve it.

Drafting defensive starters and competitive depth should be the key this draft. Defensive line is probably by far the biggest priority. Avril and Rubin are 30, while Bennett and McDaniel are 31. All but Bennett will have added another year to that once the 17/18 season starts. Clark and Reed are young but we're going to need 1 or 2 more if we don't want a sudden huge drop off here soon. Even if all these guys stick around for a few years and continue to play a high level, D-line depth is the most valuable of any position regardless.

Getting another LB would be wise as well. There is a huge drop off after Wagner and Wright and none of the other guys are on the level of even an average starting LB. A pass rushing specialist, someone who has both the size and speed to cover TEs or preferably both would be an amazing addition to what is already the best front seven in football (as graded by PFF).

We have some of the best players in the secondary of any team. Sherm, ET and Kam are the best CB, FS, SS trio in the league. Sadly Shead might not be able to handle the CB2 position and will probably revert back to all around secondary back up, especially considering his injury. Lane had a down year and will have to prove it was a fluke or he could disappear from the depth chart sooner than later. It was also clear that the drop off in talent is huge once one of Sherm, ET or Kam goes down. The secondary is really top heavy.

I'm actually really content with our stable of skill position players (WR, RB and TE), adding people for competition is always a smart idea. Especially at RB where our top 2 guys have quite the injury history. No need to reach here though, even without new additions these units should be able to perform well next year.

I don't think I'm going to have to convince anyone that we don't have to draft a QB in the early rounds with Wilson as our franchise QB.

O-line is an issue but like we saw this year, inserting a rookie 1st rounder into the line-up isn't magically going to solve all problems. Use free agency and pick 1 or 2 guys in the middle rounds with actual O-line experience.

TL;DR - use first round pick on defense

I know historically they wait at CB but I wonder if they draft an elite guy in the 1st if he's there this year since Pete labeled it a huge priority. This might be the year to do it.

Hopefully we don't lose it due to Pete's handling of Sherman's injury. They'll tie it to player safety and find a way to set an example with us.

I agree with Overseasfan.

The team should focus on drafting defense for depth. Our current defense is good, but declining and not getting any younger. An infusion of youth and talent to the defense should be a priority.

The free cap space should be used on the offense imo

Best player available whoever is a difference maker to the team. Interior rusher or top notch offensive lineman. As long as the player is a first year starter.
