Secure Home-Field Advantage. In the last 4 SB's (this year included), teams who didn't have to play a road game in the playoffs, made it to the SB.

ATL didn't have to leave the dome....onto the SB.

Pats didn't have to leave Foxborough....onto the SB.

Next season, make sure the playoffs go through Century Link. Or let the Cowboys get the #1 seed, we get the #2 seed, and they give us the road through Seattle.

Or just outplay the teams that are in front of you. Homefield thru out would be great tho.

Last four playoffs, home teams haven't lost. Obviously that can change, but recently it's been pretty clear that home field wins.

Yeah so don't get cute and throw away games to start the season. Look what the Pats did this last offseason. Tom Brady gets beat up in AFC Championship game aginst Denver. The NEXT DAY New England fires the line coach who was with them when the won the Superbowl in 2014. They did not sit around and hem and haw "oh this guy was on a team that did X". No, they were like "This guy is trash and he is going to get the franchise killed."

You can be a bad leader by making bad decisions and you can be a bad leader by making NO decisions.

Wouldn't it have been great to have Scarnecchia as our OL coach? Seems like he really improved their unit from a liability in 2015 to a strength this year.

He is on the next level of line coaches. Good Oline coaches are a strange breed. When a team gets a really good one they never leave the team they are with.

Art Kehoe U of Miami 37 years 5 national championships over 80 linemen drafted.

Kirk Ferentz line coach for 1981-1989 Iowa Line coach for the Raves/Brown under Belichick 1993-1998

Dante Scarnecchia Line coach 2000-2013 there for 6-7 Belichick Superbowls.

Howard Mudd has been a line coach from 1972-2012

Bobb McKittrick (RIP) Line coach for all 5 49er Superbowl teams.

Then the Seahawks have this loser

Tom Cable 1998-2011 fired in three years or less at every coaching stop and every level of coach OC/HC/Line coach. That is a ton of failure. In fact, Tom Cable is a specialist in failure.

Great post Sdog! Completely agree. You evolve, adapt and change in this league or you get beat and slide down the pinnacle. A good coach takes into account the entire morale of the team and makes decisions and even coaching changes accordingly-and not just keep assistants who he thinks he can trust.

Back on topic, for the Hawks, HFA is vital. Until we can at minimum win a divisional round playoff game on the road, HFA appears to be our only route to the SB. Laying eggs on the road against Tampa Bay, LA and similar teams will continue to leave us at home on championship weekend.

Obviously HFA is important, especially for the Seahawks, but there is another element that is even more important and that is balance. If you have a glaring weakness it will be exploited in this league.

Last year, the road teams won every Wild Card game. That included us.

Now, the teams that had a 1st round bye won the next week.

Would also add "Don't have your star safety break your other star safeties leg in mid air" .. that probably helps get back to the Super Bowl as well.

Just wasn't our year guys.

Hmm, I don't know. How about we bring back all the same people and do all the same things and see what happens. If that doesn't work, let's trade away our center and first round pick.

THIS.

Hawks would have been blown out at home in the NFCCG if they had HFA. This years team had zero chance of competing for the NFCCG or Lombardi with the team they fielded against Atlanta, ZERO.

Zero is a pretty strong statement. I believe that they had a slight chance if the game was played in Seattle....maybe 1% or so.

Hawks had HFA at the start of week 16 and they blew it. If you can't beat the Cardinals at home in a must win game....

Actually 50/50 at worst. Please stop this Falcon love it's depressing and will make you look silly after February 5th. 8)

In this conversation the Seahawks are coulda, woulda, shoulda...deal with it and realize Atlanta will be facing a team, coach, defense and quarterback all much better, then some other AFC teams they lost to full strength on both sides. Follow yet?

Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Oakland and New England can and should beat Atlanta 3 out of 4 times. Matt Ryan my ass. The man is this generation's version of Drew Bledsoe. Really awesome until it's not. So please play the game before you and it seems the world, crowns the Falcons and Quinn as the best EVAR!!!!

KC lost.

There is no guarantee we beat Atlanta at home, it would have been closer but I'm still not even sure we would have won.

Of course there's no guarantee..............but considering we've never NOT gone to the SB when securing the #1 seed, it's a hell of a start.
