2017 Seahawks, Depth Chart, Roster Moves, Cap Position

The Essential Online Seattle Football Fan Forum Community. There simply is NO substitute. LANGUAGE RATING: PG-13
  • Seahawks posted their 1st depth chart for 2017.

Presumably, this must be the last day of training camp.

    Depth Chart Link >>> http://www.seahawks.com/team/depth-chart

I think it noteworthy that, with this first depth chart, they are listing their two experienced linemen additions at the starting guard positions ..... presumably to help their young starting tackles.

  • But will he actually sign ...... or will he shop the Seahawks?

    Looks like Tramaine signed.

Seahawks Make Roster Moves >>> http://www.seahawks.com/news/2017/08/16/seahawks-make-roster-moves
The Seahawks added an experienced veteran to their secondary Wednesday, signing former San Francisco 49ers starting cornerback Tramaine Brock. Seattle also added depth at linebacker, signing Rodney Butler. Receiver Jamel Johnson was waived and safety Jordan Simone was waived/injured.

  • Thanks Jville, you are always quick at noticing the changes.

http://www.rostermon.com reports the following roster changes.

    Jordan Simone SS 2017-08-16 Waived
    Jamel Johnson WR 2017-08-16 Waived
    Rodney Butler LB 2017-08-16 Signed
    Tramaine Brock CB 2017-08-16 Signed

Simone was waived injured and likely will revert to IR. Tramaine Brock seems like an odd signing in terms of his length, or a signing to be a pure slot corner.

Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

  • Did you know that none of the Seahawk player contracts extend beyond 2020? 2020 is the last year of the current collective bargaining agreement.

  • I expected that would happen but unlike some of the others I suspect that Simone will stay on IR for the season or until his ACL is repaired satisfactorily.

    Thanks for posting the news.

  • It's being reported that the Hawks have signed a FA OT- Tyrus Thompson a 6th rd. pick in 2015 of the Vikings who has bounced around and never been able to stick.

Thompson was well regarded in the draft but seems to be missing something as he has never stuck anywhere since being draft and has had an unfortunate injury history.

This if true, means the team has now put George Fant on IR.

Will update once I see something from a reputable site. It's a done deal.

Rodney Butler is out of NMSU ... New Mexico State.

As of yet, George Fant has yet to be moved to the injured reserve list. A spot will, of course, open up once they do.

Rodney Butler part..Did I miss something?

He was brought back in at the same time as the CB Brock last week.

  • What we all need to accept is that the team believes in incremental improvement and every position is constantly being bolstered or the competitive pool is being deepened whenever possible. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but it's constant. All in all though they are doing not too bad as we fans enjoy the longest period of steady team success in the history of the franchise.

Some of us don't agree with many of the moves by JS and we mostly want more from the OLine but are hopefully of the clear appreciation the team spends the least in the league on the OLine, by a considerable amount. Of course this allows the team to keep the elite core together of the the rest of the team. That lower spend of course is a compromise and the price is a less efficient O at times.

I'm happy to see some reinforcements brought in for the OLine but none are special additions yet may prove to be more than camp fodder. I remain positive though the Fant injury really sucked.

So ends my philosophical raving. I think we could be in for a Great season.

I count 90 names on jammerhawk's up to date roster. At the moment, George Fant is still on the active roster. For some unknown reason, Jeremy Liggins slipped off of the seahawks.com posted roster some time ago. Jammerhawk's current listed roster is correct. The seahwks.com listed roster is in error with it's omission of Jeremy Liggins.

Clearly, jammerhawk has upstaged seahawks.com with his up to the moment accuracy. 8)

  • I show 90 on the roster, and you are correct. Liggins is still on the team and practicing though I'd expect he'd be cut in the final cuts to 53.

Although Fant would be eligible to go on IR if he was waived injured, if he was waived injured another opportunistic team could claim him as a waived player. The team naturally wants to avoid that happening as they obviously wish to retain him.

Our numbers here are right. The team presently has 90 players on the roster although Fant will be immediately assigned to IR at cut-down time.

  • Until the real season starts the team's site is often out of date or in error with their roster. Even then they can be quite slow to update.

ourlads.com and rostermon.com both show Liggins as still on the 90 man roster.

  • I expect the waivers, waiver claims, cuts, IR designations, PUP assignments, trades if any, FA pickups, will start to happen after the the game tonight. In fact it might be instructive to see who though eligible to play is not played by the team as there may be something in the works for the player and the team doesn't want to risk any injury.

In all the team will need to deal with 37 players to reach the 53 man limit. 10 of them would be eligible to be returned to the PS. Of particular interest will be the RBs, WRs, OLine, DLine, reserve LBs, and the depth at DB (both CB and S).

Expect JS to be be active in attempting to grab players of interest to the team cut loose elsewhere so expect some new faces and the loss of several good players who are surplus to needs. The 53 man roster is usually never set in stone even after the cuts to 53 and every season some late changes always happen right up to the start of the first game with some churning as the early season goes along.

With the team shopping Kearse, Lane, and Collins to see if there is trade interest we can expect some movement we may or may not have thought inevitable. No position group is totally secure although some starting positions certainly are.
Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

Coleman was on the PS in 2015, then picked up by NE.

As well I have some time consuming committments over the long weekend and will only have a cell phone which is very hard to do updates upon.
