2013 Seahawks 6th Best NFL Team of the past 30 years?

According to list below, the 2013 Seahawks are the 6th best team of the past 30 years, based mostly on Football Outsiders DVOA.

I'm surprised the 2015 Seahawks are higher than the 2012 Seahawks. I think the 2012 was better.

Seahawks have 4 teams in top 30 and 3 in the top 15 - that's pretty good. 49ers have the most, but none in the last 20 years.

Where are the 2014 Seahawks? They were better than 2005, 2015 and 2012 IMO.

LMAO....if these teams were to play each other, our 'Hawks would kick the crap out of those teams. The size and speed difference would be huge. I get it that DVOA is supposed to even things out I guess. But head to head, it would be no contest.

The '87 49ers lost by 12 at home in their only playoff game but are the "5th best" all time. Our '15 Hawks lose the playoff game in the 1st quarter against Carolina but are really the "12th best" in history. The 2010 Patriots lose at home in the divisional round but are actually "10th greatest ever." Etc, etc.

Further proof DVOA= nice stat reference during the season and worthless determinant of measuring actual greatness.

2013 Seahawks would have blown out the 2007 pats just like they blew out Denver in SB48

I am really surprised the 2012 Niners are not on the list. I am less surprised the 2013 Niners are not on the list although you could make an argument.

DVOA loves the Seahawks, BUT football is not played on a calculator.

First, it's a DVOA statistical ranking, it's not subjective ... either a team had the stats to make the list or they didn't. A subjective analysis of which team would win against whom is a different thing altogether.

Second, it's of the last 30 years not "of all time" so the great Steelers and Dolphins teams of the 70's or Lombardi's Packers are not eligible for the list.

It's good discussion fodder but nothing to get the red arse over.

Not only that they have to watch every game and chart every play to come up with these rankings. They are hoping to find more video of the 86 and 85 seasons, that is right the NFL and CBS/NBC/ABC did not save the games from those eras. Once they get the game tapes then they will be able to lengthen their list. Before 2013 they only had DVOA stats for 1995.

I corrected the title.

it looks like maybe dvoa is a useful measurement within the context of a single season, but becomes less accurate when measuring across decades...

How are the 2005 Seahawks better than the 2005 Steelers, if Pittsburgh "won" that superbowl? :stirthepot:

I think this is one of those cases where the stats just don't match up to the eye test. I don't see how the 91 Skins are the top of the list. For my money, I still have a hard time seeing any team other than the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys as the best team, possibly ever.

Did you watch that game?

As much as it angers me to think about the 05 Super Bowl, the Hawks didn't play that great overall.
That being said, we all know that the yellow towels changed that entire game. I could see why the Hawks would be considered a better team.
