Eagles' fans' response seems to be a mix of "Haha, good riddance" and "Oh shoot, watch him be awesome now that he's gone", so who knows.

UPDATE: Smith's tweet announcing his signing has now been deleted.

So basically in line with any player transaction in the NFL.

He hasn't been much of anything yet, but why not take a shot?

Well, we know Wags and KJ are set, but a little competition for the rest of the crew won't hurt.

You guys know what this means, right?!?!?

They got their two horrific first round busts from 2013 in Joekel and Jordan.

And now they've got the first of two first round busts from 2014 also.

Johny Manziel, step right up!!!!!!!!

You can have talent but sometime the right scheme fit can turn a career around.

Could be a case of being miscast in their systems. Given the turnover there and the generally schizophrenic nature of their FO over the last three years -- may not be all that bad.

At any rate, today he's no more than a camp body. Should be plenty hungry enough to play hard. Still don't expect him to make the final 53. But should push whomever does make it. Kind of reminds me of the stories we'd hear about Pete showing his USC underclassmen game clips of the incoming freshmen seeking to take their jobs. Anything to burn the competition flame a little hotter.

Totally.

Cable should play Manziel at LT.

All I remember from this kid coming out of college was that his physical measurables were all in the Seahawks' wheelhouse. His SPARQ and his size were exactly what you see Schneider salivate over. I also remember he was a projected late 2-early 3 and the Eagles over drafted him.

To be honest when I saw he had been released I wondered if it would be us that kicked the tires.

Wonder who is getting released in order to add him? Could be that Jordan won't pass his physical.

I have no idea if this is true or not...

This Eagles' beat writer says it a 3 yr deal but I don't see that being reported by anyone else.

A 3- year deal seems like a long deal for a player who hasn't shown much since entering the league unless it's a deal of nothingness.

This is a lets see if he can get his head screwed on right, we know he has physical talent. If not he will take reps from our vets and save them some wear and tear in summer camp.

I remember another misfit LB/End the Hawks got from the Eagles named Chris Clemons.

Maybe lightening strikes twice.

Marcus Smith is a pure LEO in this defense, and is a pure DE in any 4-3 defense. That's part of the reason why Smith failed in Philly, they tried to make him a 3-4 OLB in Billy Davis' defense under Chip Kelly, and Smith had no previous experience playing a 2-point stance, making reads, dropping into coverage, etc.

The most important thing to note about Marcus Smith is that his position coach at Louisville was none other than new Seahawks DL coach Clint Hurtt. Smith was a converted QB (seriously) whom Hurtt developed into a pass-rushing DE and 1st-round draft pick. If Smith is ever going to regain his mojo and fulfill some of that promise, it's going be right here with the same position coach who made him in the first place, and who knows best how to properly deploy and maximize his talents and strengths.
