Pete Carroll mentioned him in a recent press conference. They plan on using Nick a lot. They provided him plenty of snaps at the point of attack as a blocker for running plays. (Good news for fans of the outside zone). He continues to run routes and catch the ball well.

About all I've heard is he was drafted and known for his blocking skills, but is surprising many by his pass catching and route running abilities this year.

Oh good, everybody in the stadium will be able to guess which direction the play is going to go.

Well maybe and I say this with a truck load of salt, we can bring Vannett in on red zone plays and spread Graham out as a WR or the slot, well I can dream anyway, to obvious of a move to utilize your talent and give the defense a look of run and pass and not predictable.

I really liked the Vannett selection on draft day. Was bummed he didn't contribute more.

But the TE landscape looks different this year. Last year we kept 4 TEs, and Williams was a top tier inline blocker and ST ace.

This year, Vannett is really the only inline option of quality. We probably get to see him more this preseason especially with Willson being dinged up. In all, I expect Vannett to have a lot more opportunities than he did last year.

Tight end production will contribute to the entire balance of our offense. Vannett will get his feeds as well as doing the essential dirty work.

I hope opposing D coordinators are thinking that way too.

One of the recent camp day recap articles I read today said he caught the final touchdown of some scrimmage. Sounds like he is doing something.

:177692: A tight end that can block, run routes and catch from multiple positions makes an offense far less predictable. They instill uncertainty in an opponent and create play calling opportunities. That was the huge value of Zack Miller.

Pete Carroll is focused on blocking upgrades. Rookie conversion project Tyrone Swoops also had a big catch today. But, improvement in his blocking is what has Carroll optimistic about Swoops chances of making the roster. Blocking upgrades and getting the run game rolling is job one in 2017.

"He (Swoopes) just seems to be making the transition. We are pretty blown away that it has been this quick," coach Pete Carroll said.

"Because he is already blocking people."

Yes, a life-long, former blue-chip quarterback that is 6 feet 4, 254 pounds -- and blocks people.

"We thought that might be a challenge," Carroll said.

He no doubt could be another successful conversion IMO. They tried that with Prior, and Prior wasn't interested...then later he decided to give it a shot and look at him now.

I will mention that Luke (not surprisingly) looks a bit skeptical in this pic.

Oh, great. Just what we need - MORE bitching about Bevell not throwing to Graham.

Well I have two cheeks you can pucker up and kiss, personnel usage and packages have been a issue and this is about Vannett and what he can bring and fits within the context of being able to get more red zone points, which is why we brought Graham here in the first place.

Also it is not just Graham I said a Run and pass look not being predictable, Graham on the edge or in a slot where he gets a free release would be a huge advantage, the Run would not have the defense stacked when our offense is giving a more pure run look and we can get a pop inside much better with the Linebackers having to respect pass as well.

Be careful, that water your walking on can turn to quicksand as well.

QB to TE has worked before. My own first cousin, Jay Riemersma is a perfect example. He was an Ace QB in HS, went to Michigan(QB U) and was red-shirted. Then, when his chance to play came up, he tore his rotator cuff so the coach converts him to TE @ Michigan(note:he was also a fantastic all-state BB player too). He gets drafted by the Bills and ends up on the practice squad. A year later he earns the starting job in Buffalo and after his time there he got a deal with the Stealers. An Achilles tear ended his career.

Riemersma was a heck of an all-around TE. Cool story. Didn't know he played QB.
