He's a DT (he's 294 Lbs). He played all over for the Jets because they are completely stacked on the dline but for us he'll probably play 3 tech and 5 tech. He's what we were hoping McDowell would some day become...

That's your rush package. That is better than they could have hoped for with McDowell because Richardson is a Pro Bowl caliber veteran talent who knows what he's doing. They can't double team Richardson and Bennett. There is going to be pocket collapse with only a four man rush. This has to get any Seahawk fan excited.

  • He is a 3T. They played him at end due to scheme. Think a more stout Bennett. Can play inside or out (and even played OLB at near 300 lbs). He'll line up alongside Bennett. Good luck trying to hold down both of them.

    Ridiculous on paper.

  • Jets run a 3-4. He played more towards the middle. I could easily see him being a DT and sometimes edge rusher.

DT is where i bet he plays 80% if the time.

I wouldn't say it was "easily". There have been trade rumors about him for seemingly forever now.

They were probably going to lose him next year, and it's not like the Jets are competing any time soon. Better than losing him and getting nothing.

Exactly, apparently he has some legal issues. Like driving 140 MPH with a 12 year old child in the car. Plus rumors of locker room issues.

To be fair though, who wouldn't have locker room issues if forced to play for the Jets?

  • Hopefully this front seven can pressure like the the Super Bowl Seahawks or 2007 Giants. Those are the last D-lines I can remember of this caliber. Maybe the 2011 Giants as well.

    Few things:

    1. Leonard Williams

In 2015, NY drafting #6 had Leonard Williams drop into their lap. Now NY is a badly run team. Basically think of every stupid fan you've ever heard/read. Drafting BPA by way of draft hype. That's them. They don't really have a philosophy on how to build a team or how to win. They just add players. With little to no regard of how they fit.

Williams was supposed to be a top 3 pick in his draft. So when he slid, they basically thought they hit the jackpot.

Now Wiliams is a good player. But basically they had triple downed on DL (Wilkerson and Richardson already on the roster). Essentially three players at two positions.

Williams has more club control. And when it came time to pick between Wilkerson and Richardson -- NY opted for Wilkerson.

    2. Stage 3

Richardson is in stage three of the NFL's substance abuse program. Next violation and it's suspension. So added risk.

    3. Immaturity

Richardson really kind of pouted his way out of NY. It's understandable in some ways. NY basically pulled his position/role out from under him in 2016. And then made matters worse by franchising him instead of allowing him to walk. For the sole purpose of getting a pick in return. So this season for Richardson was always going to be about trying to maximize his open market worth in 2018. For a team that wasn't going to allow him to feature his talents to the league.

Is that immature? Hard to say. Seattle wouldn't (doesn't and didn't) play that kind of game with our guys that we know will leave us. Whether it was Carpenter, or Irvin or Tate. Seattle just does their business better than the Jets. They act and treat their players in punitive fashion. Seattle tries to showcase it's players so that they can get the best deals they can. Even if it isn't with us.

The bottom line is, Richardson was the odd man out the moment they picked Williams. And then NY basically used club control measures to stunt his ability to go elsewhere and earn. So there was a ton of animosity on Richardson's side. And he basically allowed that to bleed into the team dynamic in order to accelerate the process that NY had already committed to.

  • More interior pass rush.
Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

  • Richardson is a beast, and imagine how much better he will play for a team that isn't terrible and hopeless and inept which never has a chance to win it's division or go to the playoffs, that knows how to rotate their D line so he can get after the QB from the inside

  • I think this gives us a Superbowl winning defense, provided that it does not suffer player-removing injuries or events. This defense will almost certainly be great, with the potential of being the greatest of all time.

Does anyone here think that this defense will dominate enough to wind the Superbowl if it loses any one of (in off the top of my head order):

    1. Earl Thomas

    2. Kam Chancellor

    3. Richard Sherman

    4. Bobby Wagner

    5. Cliff Avril

    6. Michael Bennett

    7. Frank Clark

    8. K.J. Wright.

Today has felt like Christmas all day long. Exciting times ahead.
