My question is really based on the jobs of Bevell and Cable. Has Pete ever fired an assistant coach. Pretty sure he hasn't with the Seahawks. There has been coaching attrition, but to my recollection they have left of their own accord for head positions or coordinator positions. What is his track record in any firings going back to USC, NE, NYJ? If he has fired anyone, what did it take? Cant be inderachieving.

Fired his first OC after one season. Probably regrets it and that causes him to not fire Bevell.

He has not renewed contracts and ushered assistants out the door though you'd likely not characterize them as firings.
Sherman Smith was one.

Pete didn't exactly fire his first OC at USC, Norm Chow. He just announced at the end of 2004 he would be giving play calling responsibilities to Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian. Chow got the hint and took the OC job with the Titans shortly thereafter.

Pete tends to avoid firing assistants, we all know he is not a confrontational guy, but he subtly lets people know when it's time to move on.

Jeremy Bates.........................he didn't tow the company line.
According to Dave Wyman on KIRO (take that for what it's worth) Bates was fired for his behavior (see intoxicated) at the team's holiday party, and wasn't PC's decision, it was Paul Allen's.

That may well be what happened. Note that Bates was USC's QB coach the year before Pete took the Seahawk job, and Bates was one of the guys he brought up with him. Hard to believe Pete'd cut him loose after one season, and philosophical differences doesn't sound right.

Just this off-season, Sherman Smith was let go as RB Coach and Chad Morton was promoted.
