Taking into account the non-existent opportunities to practice at full speed, after a couple games this defense is going to look a lot more impressive than they do at the moment. Richardson has only been a Seahawk for a week and is already playing great while making those around him even better.

For years, there has been a philosophical debate -- during the dominance of Monte Kiffin's "Tampa 2" in the mid-1990s and early 2000s and going all the way back to the 70s with the "Steel Curtain" -- about the most critical position to this style of defense. The importance of disruptive DTs like Joe Greene and Warren Sapp to those defenses comes to mind.

That was the one element that was conspicuously missing during four (and a half) consecutive years of leading the NFL in scoring defense. Now we have it. This Seahawks defense is in its prime, and it has a chance to be even better than it ever was before. That should be a scary prospect for the rest of the league.
