A Consistent Pass Rush Would Really Help The Secondary

A great pass rush is a corner's best friend. Even against Arizona, pressure has really been lacking. If opposing QB's are not going to be moved off their spot, there will be more of these shootout type games ahead.

When Richard sprouts a pair let me know. No pressure on the QB = getting beat and losing games.
No Shutdown cover corner (Sherm) or enforcer over the middle (Kam) means you need to be forcing the opposing QB’s into mistakes via constant and consistent pressure. You CANNOT sit back and “play coverage” with the less talented remaining healthy DB’s and beat good to great teams. Softzone/Prevent = losses like today.

This

this has been a glaring problem for a long time, even with Sherm and Kam and our entire d corps healthy, qbs have too much time and even great dbs are gonna lose a battle against a good qb with time...we need pressure and it's even more vital now that our dbs are off the scrap heap...this passive style of defense may minimize the big play but it's just death by a thousand cuts, let the dogs loose, you'll get burned here and there but we've got high end dline talent and lb'ers who can blitz, lets see if we can make some qbs sweat.

Seahawks blitzed quite a bit tonight. Many of the 3rd down conversions were against the blitz.

Falcons picked up the blitzes almost perfectly - Ryan had 3+ seconds even against the blitz most times.

D-Line underperformed.

I'd like to see some stats on that, they did blitz but it wasn't a hell of a lot and yes when they did it did seem to get picked up. I don't recall 3+ seconds on those blitzes tho, he just heaved one up to Julio who just had his way with Lane all night and a couple other were out of his hands quick. It did force some quicker decisions out of him the few times we did see it, if it was anybody other than Lane in coverage it gives our dbs a fighting chance

We got destroyed for long yardage every time we blitzed or called for penalities. We dont have the CBs to pull off Blitzes.

we don't have the dbs to give qbs time either. You're damned if you do damned if you don't. You're not gonna run into the reigning MVP every week but we've seen average qbs move the ball on us consistently with time.

Yes and no. With the secondary the Seahawks have (probably better than league average, btw), the blitzes have to work every once in a while to be worth the gamble.

When the blitz never works, blame lies partly or mostly with the D-Line (players and coaches).

It might help if they tried something other than a vanilla MLB blitz every once in a while.

Honestly, the DL has been the biggest disappointment of the season. Sheldon made a great play, but he was so much better when he was on the Jets. That has to be scheme/usage, right? Frank Clark has been invisible in many games. It feels like our guys get stonewalled or that when they do get through, they're always a step too late. IDK what that is.

I feel like there's only so much coaching can do. Our blitzes flat out didn't work today. Maybe our players just aren't that good at beating their blockers one on one?

Or maybe they are playing gap contain to stop the run and not with their ears back.

This could be true. If so, is this a wise coaching decision against teams that are shredding the Seahawks secondary with a passing attack?
