We knew this was going to be the eventual outcome, but it still sucks to see it official.

Never would of guessed that stingers would be the injuries that would decimate our defense this year.

Right? Paul Allen is a billionaire and couldn't cough up the money for a decent apiarist?

The is unfortunate but expected. Hope he makes full recovery and this doesn’t end his
Career.

If Kam is done for good, we are screwed to the tune of $25 million. That impact could be worse than missing the player.

Kam Chancellor signed a 3 year, $36,000,000 contract with the Seattle Seahawks, including a $10,000,000 signing bonus, $25,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $12,000,000. In 2017, Chancellor will earn a base salary of $3,000,000, a signing bonus of $10,000,000 and a roster bonus of $243,744, while carrying a cap hit of $6,743,744 and a dead cap value of $14,000,000

"But while it was advertised as $25 million guaranteed, only $13 million was guaranteed at signing with the rest becoming fully guaranteed in later seasons.

There could be significant salary cap implications if Chancellor — who will turn 30 next April 3 — were unable to continue playing.

His contract includes cap hits of $9.8 million, $13 million and $14.5 million the next three years but with dead cap numbers of $7.5 million, $5 million and $2.5 million.

Avril, who turns 32 in April, has one year remaining on a four-year, $28.5 million contract he signed in 2014. It includes a cap hit of $8 million but a dead cap number of just $500,000."

Well then that sucks for Kam but is better news to the team and it's future if this does keep him out for good.

Hopefully Kam can get by on his $36 million earnings total in the NFL if that proves to be it for him.

This is why this will drag out well into next year.

No reason if you're Kam to retire, cause you're forfeiting the remainder of your deal..............and no reason if your the Hawks to cut him, because you'll take a big cap hit.

So expect this saga to drag well into 2018.

It's incredible to think what has not only happened this year, but in ONE GAME. Losing Sherm for the year (and likely in to some of next season) and Kam for the year in the same game.
Add that to Earl missing a couple games, and Avril maybe having to retire at this point.

This is why players get(and deserve) guaranteed contracts. They put their bodies on the line, and his life could be forever changed by this. Wishing him the best

Glad we have McDougald. Also, hopefully the FO didn't whiff on our two Safety picks in the draft.

Wouldn't it be great if in cases like this, where a player retires due to an inury, he would get the guaranteed money and it would not count against the cap? That way everyone wins (besides maybe the greedy owners). Also, it would probably result in more guaranteed money for the players.

Unlike law enforcement, Fire & Rescue, or our armed forces. Many construction jobs, farming jobs, even engineering jobs require putting your body and sometimes lives on the line for a paycheck far far beneath the one an NFL player takes to the bank. I wish him the best and pray he recovers fully.

I believe we were fortunate to watch these guys play for as long as they did. Football is such a brutal sport, we all know that players careers can be over on the next play. I always regret that second SB we lost. It is so hard to get back to winning another one.
I wish Kam and his family the best going forward, no matter where the future takes him.

This is why the NFL DOESN'T guarantee contracts. The ability to cut a player who's no longer performing or hurt is the ONLY thing that allows teams to get cap space alleviated to still try and compete.

Can you imagine how dire our cap situation would be next year if we couldn't cut some of these players who aren't even playing?

Why is it that no one on this message board will not "call out" Cam's behavior for what it is? A primo donna. Yesteryear in the NFL, getting a "stinger" was common place. It was never a reason to leave the field for more than the rest of the game. Now we have a player who is talking/considering retirement.....sad.
