"The Seahawks have made changes in the wake of a $100,000 fine for violating the NFL’s concussion protocol. Coach Pete Carroll did not go into detail about what the team altered in its cognitive evaluation procedure."

I personally think there was a miscommunication between the refs and staff. It’s definitely not consistent throughout the league.

Absolutely agree there. League is playing catch-up to the protocol-driven policy.

All for athlete safety but fear the current confusion is taking away from the game some?

On what planet are NFL refs medical professionals? This rule is stupid. Leave it up to the players and coaching staff. IF a player is sent to the sidelines for evaluation, the gameplay should stop until it's complete to prevent potential problems. This would do two things. First, the Refs wouldn't overuse it, and two it wouldn't allow a defender to go helmet to helmet to gain an advantage. A 15yd penalty to knock Tom Brady out of a series on 3rd and goal would be a worthwhile penalty for some defenses.

It's all about the NFL covering their ass in the present litigious actions against the NFL.

Yeah.... because NFL players making league minimum needs that protection. A soldier returning from Afghanistan and retiring as an e-7 with 20yrs makes about 27k, and may very well have the same type of lasting injuries as an NFL player retiring with 3yrs playing time and a similar pension.

One of the best posts ever in this too often weak-tea climate.

Well done.
