Started 23 games for the Rams at strong safety before being released.

Now they have two strong safeties in Alexander & Bradley McDougald, unless they trade Earl Thomas and McDougald plays FS.

Before being released during the 2017 season, PFF named Alexander the Rams' "secret superstar." LOL.

S Maurice Alexander

2016 snaps: 920

Key stat: Improved his PFF grade from 44.6 to 83.4 from 2015 to 2016.

Alexander saw 434 snaps in 2015 for the Rams, but this past season he started all year, replacing the departed Rodney McLeod. His coverage was the biggest leap in performance, and he notched two interceptions while allowing no scores when in primary coverage from his safety spot. Alexander only really had one poor game all season, a week 12 outing against the Saints in which he missed three tackles.

This guy is the epitome of "chip on shoulder."

Got kicked off college team for injuring a teammate badly in a fight at a party 6 years ago. Worked as a janitor at Rams stadium until he was allowed to re-join team. Moved to safety, got drafted by Rams, played at same stadium he worked as a janitor at.

Great back-story, and seems like another undervalued talent.

Seems very odd that no one signed him after he was waived last October......

Why did he get released if he was the secret superstar?

Alexander, in the final year of his rookie contract, struggled in the first four games and began this week graded 73rd among 83 qualified NFL safeties by Pro Football Focus.

"We wish nothing but the best for Mo; I really enjoyed being around Mo," Rams coach Sean McVay said in his Monday news conference. "But I think it's a credit to the depth we've established at that safety position. There were some things where we expected a better level of play from him, and he knew that. Those things were communicated."

Forget the Rams. I don't give a lick what McVay says. This might be my favorite signing so far. I still want to see what Hill can do, but it didn't hurt to have too many hard hitting safeties.

For a guy many expected a big breakout year from, Mo just hasn’t had a great start to the year. With multiple questionable tackle attempts, the combo of Alexander and Cody Davis both missed tackles allowing Alfred Morris to gain 70-yards on one rushing attempt. Not only that, but Alexander got completely left in the dust in man coverage against Cowboys TE James Hanna, allowing a 28-yard TD that gave the Cowboys a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter.

Great, we signed a scrub.

Well at least he can clean the clink toilets if playing football doesn't work out...

I'm just hoping they don't dump Earl Thomas for anything less than a first round pick.

We didn't sign a scrub, we signed a young player with starting experience at both safety spots. These are the kind of one year deals that can bear fruit. Good insurance if we trade Earl.

Let me guess, with our front office we're paying him $10 mil. guaranteed a year for 3 years.
