Depth is good. Cheap depth is better. Cheap good depth is awesome. Whichever one of these it ends up being I will be happy, as long as the contract isn't nut-so, which seems highly unlikely if it happened.

If he's an UFA, don't sign him as it would negate Jimmy Graham's comp pick next year.

he fits the direction the teams taking this offseason, cheap contract probably short term and hope he shows more than he's had a chance to show elsewhere. It's a flyer season, I've given up on them doing much more than gambling on penny stocks this season. Seems like it's pray to get out of this season without any big stars getting hurt and lets give it a run next year when we got some money to play with.

I'm not even sure they would host a player who would take away a comp pick unless they REALLY wanted him

I was thinking about this earlier.

There is a group of guys not getting signed now due to comp picks considerations. So you want to tell them you will sign them as soon as you can after that window opens. Kind of like going after unrestricted free agents after the draft.
That is all I can think that explains it

They could easily sign guys like this and dump them in week 9 for comp pick considerations.

Plus, if the salary is low enough, there's every chance he wouldn't count towards the final comp pick calculations, either.

Nice.

People have the right to question moves made on the OLine.

However, as many have pointed on other threads, PC/JS have signed lesser known, rotational, situational DLinemen for years and they have been ranked number 1 on most defensive categories....until last year.

And, they did that again by signing players like Stephen.

Interesting size...another McDaniel type: 6'5'' 313lbs.

The body type is similar (good comparison) but McDaniels played with unusually good leverage.

Back-end rotational player. Can't be disappointed because it's unfair to expect anything from this type of move. Though pretty much all of our moves this offseason have been like this.
