So, 4 QBs for camp as of now?

Sounds about right.

The ghost of Bevell is currently #4 on the depth chart.

Reasonable move IMO. I'm not worried much about backup QB for a team that may struggle to make the playoffs to begin with.

^ This. No backup QB is going to help this team win, or make the playoffs if RW goes down so it doesn't really matter. Davis is fine in the role.

There are numerous situations in which a backup QB could become important. One example is if Russell enters the concussion protocol, mid-game.

I'm in the camp that says we want one decent vet backup QB who can come in and give us a chance to win up to 2 games each year. This candidate should need very few reps with the starters, fit into the same system as our starter does, and be good at minimizing mistakes. I liked TJack in the role previously, and Austin Davis could be solid for it this year. I did not like Boykin in this role in 2016 when we played a hurt Russ in that AZ game simply because we didn't have a guy we trusted on the roster to play a single game.

I also think it behooves the team to have a developmental QB at least on the practice squad, and probably the 53 man roster. We need to sit seven guys every week anyways and so stashing a potential QB of the future is a good use of space in my opinion. Having Russ doesn't mean we don't need this guy and having too many good QB is the ultimate first world problem that can always land you a bunch of draft picks in return.

So, last year people got mad that they talked to him (nothing happened). Now this year people are acting mad that the DIDN'T sign him (nothing happened again)

Austin Davis is a really decent back-up QB. I'm surprised he wasn't signed by another team, especially since he's only making vet minimum.

But ultimately, thank god we didn't sign Geno a few weeks back. That guy is horribad!
