All comes back to the play in sb49. It will haunt this team until there's no one left that was part of it.

Some people thought it didn't have a affect on the team. I'm on the side it destroyed the team.

why does it have to be about sb49....nearly every coach has a shelf life, even the hoodie seems to be rubbing his players the wrong way these days...the message gets old and these guys both said they'd heard the stories over and over and they were just an autopilot when he talked, that attitude can be corrosive, you need to see the top guys buy in for the new guys to buy in...if he had lost the room right after 49 then there'd be some merit to this but this has been gradual....and I think it's just more time than they're all just unable to get over it after this long. I'm sure 49 had a part to play but I think we're too quick to lay all the blame there

Pete's loyalty is his biggest flaw as a coach

It was SB 49, but more so the lack of accountability Pete had for what went wrong and not taking care of a coach throwing a player under the bus.

With roughly eight minutes left in the 4th, the Offense had a 10 point lead. Truth is it was the D that lost SB 49

hold the coach for not holding the players accountable for taking advantage of the freedoms they were offered to be the players they were.

or, in another way... change what worked because players got complacent and look at one moment as an excuse

What was wrong with 49?
The throw from 1 yard line?

There were many times Lynch couldnt run past the 1 yard line. Even against Broncos when we ran it 3x and had to settle for the FG in the SB.

Could have fired Bevell and Cable ages ago and all would have been well.

PC overly loyal to coaches moreso than players.

We've all heard our families and friends tell stories over and over, who we've know for years.

Players that have been with the same coach for 5+ years? Sure same thing. But there are professional players who are mature and don't disrespect the coaches, and the team, and set a good example to the younger players who haven't heard the same stories, philosophies, coaching, etc.

Do you know what mature professional people also do? Move on from past mistakes, grow from them, become stronger.

Some of these guys like Sherman and Bennett are emotionally weak, shallow and immature. Don't blame some play that happened years ago for these guys acting out like this, put the blame where it belongs. They're whiny ungrateful babies. :Dunno:

Exactly. The D not taking responsibility is a joke at this point.

This has been beaten to death, but the defense was without Lane and Avril and facing the best QB of all time. They left it all out on the field that game and have every right to be upset with that moronic goal line pass, as do we all.

And yes, had Carroll simply fired Bevell the team might have eventually healed and moved on. Instead it festered, which was predictable to anybody that has ever met actual humans.

As far as PC getting dissed by Sherm and Bennett, not a surprise. Happens in every sport when a player moves on, regardless the caliber of the coach. Obviously Carroll's rah-rah is more effective on rookies than vets. But ten years from now the vets that played for Carroll will realize how special his approach was, especially for a man in his mid-60s.
