  • JS/PC are just taking who they want without given a poop. What were the chances of this guy being drafted in the 5th by any other team? They seem to like punters with a bit of machismo

  • Seahawks save $2m in 2018 and $3m in 2019 cutting Jon Ryan. Of course they still have to pay Dickson, but I think this is a pick to save on cap space as much as adding a great punter.

  • Traded up to get a punter and I'm not even mad. Supposed to be the best punter to come out in a few years. Saves us some cap money too. I figured Jon Ryan would be gone this year.

  • I love this pick. Fixed a vital need. If you cant field a punter and a kicker; you cant coach a team. Good fundamental draft.

100% this. Another really good pick. Upgrade over Ryan while also saving money in the process? I'll take it.

  • Just seems weird that this board is all about what belichick would do when talking about being okay with a second for Earl but still likes this pick.

If we hit on a bunch of low round picks then I won't care about this sort of thing but it sure doesn't seem like a belichick move.

I have seen them all. Don’t recall another one with a punter, a one handed guy, and a reach for a running back on the first round...

  • So basically, this kid is good enough at targeting his kicks that he can basically drop it on Shaquem Griffin as he guns toward the corner.

  • Granted we eliminated our two biggest handicaps, but with Pete Carrol football, the two most important players, after QB, are the punter and the kicker.

  • Much like the running back situation, there was a run on punters after the Seahawks picked Dickson in the 5th. Vikings picked a kicker at 30, then Green Bay and the Raiders picked punters at 35, 36. Pretty unanimous we got the best one. JS working that crystal ball.

  • From Schefter’s tweet

Back-to-back punters at end of 5th round: Packers picked Alabama P JK Scott, then Oakland followed on next pick with Florida punter Johnny Townsend.

So if we got one of the best in years then how was it a bad decision?

And yet some people can't do anything except whine about value and supposed reaches even though the more information that comes out, the more clear it becomes that Penny was not a reach. Anyone that threw a tantrum proclaiming Penny would have easily been available in the 3rd round has proven that they have no idea what they are talking about.

  • This is a great pick, even (especially?) where we took him. But I'm hoping our offense's production improves so his skills aren't necessary very often. But if our new edge rushers can create pressure after downed punts around the 5-10 yard line? Field position game will be in the Hawks' favor fairly consistently.
