Penny, who returned seven kickoffs for touchdowns at San Diego State, figures to be heavily involved in special teams as a rookie for the Seahawks. But as a first-round pick, he’s also going to be a key cog on offense as Seattle tries to reignite its rushing attack. If Grayson wants to find a way to sneak onto the Seahawks 53-man roster this year, proving he can thrive as a return man would improve his chances exponentially.

It’s also worth noting Seattle lost over 30 percent of its overall receiving production from a year ago when receiver Paul Richardson and tight end Jimmy Graham left as free agents in March. In addition, the Seahawks didn’t draft any wide receivers, creating ample opportunities for young players like Grayson to carve out contributing roles on offense in 2018.

If the NFL goes ahead and makes the proposed changes to the kicking game, Brian Schneider will need to carry more returners. Taking some of the load off of Tyler Lockett will be vital to the offense ..... especially to it's improvisation.

I'm all for this. I was very hopeful for Grayson last year when we picked him up, then was bummed when we cut him but then optimistic again when we got him on the practice squad. I have high expectations for him and hope he goes far for us in his NFL career

What are the proposed changes for the kicking game and why will they need to carry more returners?

Moving on from Lockett and Penny returning kicks sounds like a good idea. They (assuming Penny pans out) will be valuable assets to the offense. Hopefully Grayson can step up to this role and even contribute as a WR. Besides OL, our WR depth is the position I am concerned the most about heading into the 2018 season

FYI, the only thing in the linked articles about Grayson in particular is the soundbite after the rookie minicamp where Carroll said he did a good job (and said the same about everybody who attended).

I mean, it'd be ideal to fast track everybody's potential but a small dude with lightning speed who's harder to get a hand on, this should be a major priority. Make him a specialist ala Hester, those WR duties and learning curve can follow in a more comfortable window.

I doubt Grayson makes the team. McKissic would be a better keep. The Hawks have enough short WRs.

Oh ...... I don't know if they can have to many good compact and explosive receivers. To date, smaller receivers seem to continue to enjoyed greater success adjusting to Russell Wilson's game of improvisation.

Is it just me or is Pete Carroll completely enamoured with the Percy Harvin type offensive player?

Really?. Not in a smarty pants internet sarcastic tone, but sincerely I'm asking really?

O line, obvious. But for me WR is meh. We looked fine without Tyler imo, and finding more kearses and other role players shouldn't be difficult. Remember we even balled out with a complete unknown even to fans in the super bowl.

Lose KJ or Bobby for any significant period of time however, and I'm officially grade A pants crapping.

Or who steps in if shaquille goes down?

And on that note if earl goes down I'll probably just go mow the lawn or something.

Just legitimately 3 positions I'm more worried about adequate depth right off the top of my head than receivers.

If anyone was enamored with Percy Harvin, it was Darrell Bevell. Outside of track backgrounds and physical characteristics, there is little similarity between the make up of Cyril Grayson and that of the long departed Harvin. :229031_shrug: Very little.

I'm looking forward to seeing how much an undrafted conversion project has learned and grown over the course of a year. These are instructive and exciting times we live in. :2thumbs:

If you look at the receivers the Hawks have drafted and signed and looked at the last two seasons the only one that looks like Grayson is Grayson. RW needs receivers who can high point the ball. Baldwin, Richardson, and Graham have been the benefactors of his passes. Hopefully with Schott things will change some and instead of so much chaos there will be more quick passes.

Not just about the physical but the catches out of the backfield jet sweeps and returning abilities etc.

Harvin, Lockett, Prosise, Grayson and now Penny. Explosive is definitely the word.

Such an infectious smile :D

The recent addition of Keenan Reynolds further suggests an emphasis on looking for return specialists as well as the continued use of quick explosive receivers that can mirror quarterback improvisation. This competition is gonna be fun to watch.

Think maybe they are addressing proposed changes to kickoff rules? In any case, I welcome the idea of getting Tyler Lockett some help. Looking forward to the excitement. :2thumbs:
