Isaiah Battle 6'7 310. Was 290

Jaron Brown 6'3 204. Was listed at 6'2 previously. Obviously didn't grow at 28 years old, but is closer to 6'3 than 6'2.

Chris Carson 5'11 222. Was listed at 218 previously. Adding 4 pounds for him is different than guys with more body fat. That 4 pounds is significant.

Frank Clark 6'3 265. He was listed at 260. Was 271 at the draft and got down to 255 his rookie year.

Justin Coleman 5'11 190. Was listed at 185.

Amara Darboh 6'2 215. Difference of 1 pound. My guess is that he's both stronger as faster in his 1st full offseason.

Jalston Fowler 5'11 261. Was listed at 254 and was already a bit of a bull.

Branden Jackson 6'4 295. He was previously listed at 270. What's he going for this year? His game was never speed.

Tom Johnson 6'3 285. Was listed at 288. It's often good when guys at 30+ drop a few pounds.

Dion Jordan 6'6 284. Was listed at 275, but supposedly played over 280 last year.

Jacob Martin 6'2 242. Up from 236 in the draft. Pete said he played at 250ish last year at Temple.

Bradley McDougald 6'1 215. Up from 209 last year. It's probably just more accurate now...maybe.

Barkevious Mingo 6'5 235. He was closer to 6'5 than 6'4 in the draft at 21 years old. Was listed at 240 and now 235. Dude has always been very, very lean.

David Moore 6'0 215. Down from 219. Probably more trim and explosive, which is good.

Ethan Pocic 6'6 320. We knew he added weight. Probably not accurate to the last digit, but whatever.

CJ Prosise 6'1 225. Was 220 and likely trying to strengthen for health.

Nick Vannett 6'6 261. I think this one had been updated previously, but he's up 5 pounds and should be noted.

Cool, thanks for the updates. The listed weights on the roster are usually a joke, but it seems they are making more of an effort to update these.

FB battle this year is likely going to be between Fowler and Khalid Hill. Both of them are over 260 pounds. Fowler can run it a little bit, but has experience as a real lead blocker and can catch out of the backfield. Hill is a TE convert who they used as a short yardage ball carrier and pass catcher out of the backfield. I'm not sure if he lead blocks as well as Fowler, but the point is that both of them move their opposition by force.

DIssly is also a monstrous blocker as a pure Y TE. Might sound crazy, but I can't rule out that he starts towards the end of the year. Dude is a brute and has a drastic affect on the running game.Vannett might surprise this year too if he's really been working at it. Not sure how he couldn't see the opportunity.

Carson is yet another brute. Work outs like Hershel Walker and was able to net 4.2 ypc behind a line that didn't give him much. Defenders won't want none if he gets a head of steam. Still seeing a 50/50 with him and Penny regardless of being a 1st round pick just because they're such different styles. As a defender, when dealing with Carson you need your feet in the ground and ready for contact. With Penny, you need to be ready when he slashes and kills the angle, but also with strength. Penny could benefit a lot from the change up by way of long runs.

Fluker, Roos/Pocic with added weight, etc ,etc, etc. I can't wait to see the run game this year.

I weight myself every couple of months, and with an average weight of 175 lbs, I vary as much as +/- 5 lbs between getting on the scale.

Do you think that these variances really mean much, if anything?

IMHO, I don’t see anything on the list that worries me or gets me excited.

We aren’t talking about one of these guys “blowing up” and gaining 50lbs, nor a guy getting sickly and losing 30 in a few weeks.

The skill position guys getting heavier especially after the first year is development age, and a NFL conditioning program, Prosise and Carson both re distributed weight and condition now for the NFL, Prosise hired a personal trainer this offseason to re invent his body for NFL abuse so to speak to have better health. Branden Jackson, I think is bulking up to play inside more or be more a Bryant type Leo. Dion Jordan, was coming off a injury and now may be settled into a playing weight, Bradley McDougald, if he is playing SS he needed a bit more size,

I think of Branden Jackson as the prospect they brought in after losing Quinton Jefferson to injury, once again, in 2017. Both are 6' 3.7" and now they are within 4 lbs of each other. Both have long 33 3/8 inch arms. Branden has the much bigger 10 1/4 inch hands and an interesting linebacker background.

My expectation is for hand fighting and man handling to emerge as his means of seeing more playing time in 2018. He is a work in progress as a swing strong side DE / DT competitor. If he takes the next step, his play will become much more noticeable. The coaching staff definitely has a role in mind for Jackson. This year is his opportunity.
“You have to allow failures to be a failure and just kind of look at them as a lesson, a lesson learned, and move on from that,” he said. “You got to grow, you got to improve and keep fighting and keep dreaming.”

Jackson hopes to show that living with diabetes does not have to be a negative.
“I want people to understand that the disease isn’t a crutch,”
Jackson said. “I come from a long line of people affected by the disease. My grandmother is the primary reason why I want to help raise awareness because of her impact on my life and how she raised me and how she never let that be a crutch.”

Fighting Diabetes he has to have good weight then too much Fatty weight can create health issues with his condition, trouble he will have is maintaining good weight once he is going everyday and losing some with just sweat if it's not muscle mass.

I'd bet professional athletes don't have that much varience.

I'd imagine they all take it pretty seriously and keep a very close eye on it. If their weight goes up or down, it's intentional.

20 pounds in a year in muscle for the average hooman is significant. I've done it a couple of times. If you're already an athlete at the NFL level, OL included, and you add 20 pounds, it's even more significant. There is direct intent. Frank Clark's weight story is an interesting one. Branden Jackson is, as of now, an interesting one. That's a lot of weight. Carson adding 4 pounds to maybe a 5% body fat type is significant.

These things are relative.

I believe that 24 lbs is the max for muscle gain. No athlete is putting on 24 lbs of muscle unless there is a significant amount of fat. Having an athlete like Clark, with minimal body fat, adding 5 lbs of muscle is a significant gain. This is why I am skeptical of the Pocic weight gain. He is probably a hard gainer which makes me believe that the majority of that weight gain is not muscle.

Actually considering that he is coming off serious injury I’m surprised Carson was able to remain close to his playing weight!

It used to be that a rookie coming in gained 10-20 pounds in their first year, at least. Mainly, that was the difference between the college programs and the NFL, where there are professional conditioning coaches and nutritionists on call. Now, the colleges are catching up and players don't necessarily put on a lot of weight, although many still do.

This is all interesting stuff, of course, but I assume the players are working with team staff on deciding how much weight to put on and in what areas they need strength conditioning.

.com has photos from the OTAs and Pocic is definitely chunkier. Looks like most of it is around his waist.

One really important one of note that I missed is Naz. He's down to 292 from 304 last year. My guess is that he's opting for a sub 5 40 with more explostion, trying to nail down as many reps as possible at 3T. He's strong enough that he doesn't need to the extra 12 pounds.

Mike Davis isn't listed as being bigger, but he's much bigger than 217 right now. He could potentially be 230-235 right now. He hit the weight pile like crazy this offseason. By the end of TC, if he makes the cut, his playing weight could be over 225 at only 5'9. With adding a lot of major muscle group mass, injury is always a concern while the stabalizers try to catch up.

Marcus Smith also went from 251 to 258. He's really changed his training regimen this last offseason to work on his overall health and flexibility so that he can better fight injury. It's something of note when guys learn to be more professional as athletes.

Stringfellow is a big, strong WR. He's lost more than 10 pounds now though. Down to 209 from about 220. Doesn't make this year's roster without quite a few injuries this year, IMO, but I really like the way he plays. Kid's got a mean streak.

Nazair Jones, who exceeded expectations as a rookie, is definitely someone to keep an eye on going into year two. His opportunity is real for 2018. Jarran Reed took his game to the next level in year two under Coach Hurtt. Plenty of reasons to think that Nazair Jones will do the same in 2018.

Gaining and losing weight is based a lot of variables.

Nutrition/Diet/Supplements, Workout/Conditioning program, AND metabolism play a huge role. I mean, everyone has a friend who can eat 4 Big Macs and he wouldn't gain weight. And, you have guys like Eddie Lacy who'll gain 10lbs just by looking at a donut.

You keep on hearing about players replacing fast food with a high protein/low carb diet. This will alter your muscle to fat ratio. Increase/decrease your intake with a specific program will alter your weight too. And these guys will hire a trainer and nutritionist to reach their goal.

I am encouraged to hear Procise is working with specialist because muscle pulls and strains can be avoided. But, who knows? He can hurt his wrist when he turns a door knob.

What was Pocic's weight going in to last season? I feel like it was significantly lower

309 when we drafted him I think, but that doesn't mean he came out of camp at that weight. The word is that he's added 20 pounds. In pictures, it doesn't look much like muscle though. I would imagine that some of that is going to be shed though.

Gaining 20lbs of muscle in a year is not an absurd thing. Not even in 6 months and that is including not taking testosterone inducers or even creatine. Here is the thing though, even without extra testosterone, an early 20 year old male still produces a lot of it and if you are lifting hard in a short amount of time, your muscles can still overexert your ligaments.

So 20 lbs. in 6 months still might open one up to ligament injuries but 1 year should be fine. The ligaments grow more slowly than muscles when lifting. Not sure if the NFL allows Glucosamine but that can help with ligament growth.

IMHO it is still hard to decide if weight gain or weight loss is either a good or bad thing. Way too many variables involved. Position, how it was gained, what was gained (fat to muscle). Even some fat gain is good at some positions, especially the anchor, unless the player can make it up with strength. Fat people, especially ones that are athletic and lift are ridiculous strong as well.

Only measure seems to be production and/or lack of injuries.

Mostly agree with the above that it's player dependent.

Quick hit: Carson said he was @ 227 yesterday,up from 216 last year. Supposedly, the difference in his frame and speed are noticeable.
