Well this could be a churn to look at others while he works things out and be back next week.

To clarify ........ Carroll's stated reason for release as because of personal stuff.

In any case, I think we can safely assume Smith's conversion to linebacker didn't work out in Seattle.

From today's Pete Carrol transcript >>>>
(On terminating the contract of Marcus Smith) “Really, there were some personal reasons that came into it. He’d been a great kid in the program and all, and all things considered – and this is as far as I’m going with it – it was the right thing to do. He understood and he agreed with it.”

(On discussions with Marcus Smith) “We talked through the whole thing. I just kind of want to leave it alone because it’s personal stuff and I just really would like to leave it there.”

(On if Marcus Smith’s health was an issue) “No.”

In other roster churn news ..............

Pete Carroll disclosed in today's press conference that recently signed RB Gerald Holmes suffered a concussion ..... which explains today's motivation to sign RB Justin Stockton for depth.

I wonder if this could be true.

The team has been churning players looking for the guy they want at SOLB all this offseason which might also be the result of the reality that Smith wasn’t getting it done for them, or was’t the presence situational pass rushing they wanted at the position. Of course it could also be the case the team had hoped to see something from Jordan but he has not gotten healthy yet. If Smith was distracted by his family matter and needed to go home for a while it also could be explained.

This situation does seem a bit odd and I could easily see Smith back at some point. If Smith was deemed to be a player with a high chance to make the roster, this could be an unpaid leave of absence situation too while he deals with his personal issue.

I had high hopes for this player. Next man up.

I hope all works out for him with his ‘personal matter’.

We all know that life is more than football much as we all love football. However, some things are more important than football. I wish him nothing but luck with his stuff.

This situation and his release has to me focused my concern about the edge rush or more accurately my concern about the potential absence of an edge rush from the present roster. I appreciate that Clark has been out and missing from action until now, but who will man the other edge? Will Green be special or will some other player rise up? Could the team acquire another edge player?
