I don't think the refs are bad at what they are trying to do. They are very effective at game manipulation.

Super duper game, except for our 2nd and 3rd string Defense being able to get off the field on 3rd downs against their 3rd string QB.

The refs?? They ARE who we thought they were! ! And we let em off the hook!!

They are homers-just-keep-it-plausible, as expected. Our OL dude who false started--we let 'em off the hook.

That's exactly how I saw it too.
When Moore took it back for a TD...THERE WAS NO GOTDAMNED FOUL.
The Vikings were getting away with Intentional grounding, NO if AND'S OR BUTS ABOUT IT!!!
The Referees absolutely SUCKED BUTT tonight.....I don't care about the win or loss, but I do care about INEPT OFFICIATING.

Exactly I can deal with a loss any loss as long as it wasn't caused directly from the refs obvious scoreboard manipulation. There will be a thread made in the regular season about the NFL Refs and we'll keep it going all year. If Pete won't shine a light on this garbage we will on SEAHAWKS.NET. We put up with way to much of this last season.

Our starters went out leading 13-6 and really looked very solid overall-at least the best they’ve looked this preseason. I feel much better actually approaching the opener now.

And don’t expect any difference in the officiating this year. It’s what it is—moose dung. The Moore return blocking in the back was just garbage.

And we can talk about how the refs are obviously making phantom calls to prevent us from winning . Probably won't matter but i'm going to do it anyway.

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.
I told my brother before the game started that our greatest opponent this entire season will be the zebras. They have a hard on for the Seahawks and I just don't understand exactly why. And their 'apologies' after the fact are just blatant insults. Akin to pushing an old lady down an escalator and having the mall give her a $10 Subway gift card.

Shocked at how our OL was pushing around their DL on runs. Only the Ram's DL is better.

Yep, I think some guys made the team tonight because of their good games.

The refs, well, I’ve stated my take on them in the gameday threads.....

But, I think the NFL needs to have an independent outside group that grades officiating on a game by game basis.
Have extra crews on standby and when crews start accumulating bad grades they start getting suspended,
hopefully this will light a fire on officials to improve.

During said supension officials will go over their mistakes and hopefully fix their ways with certified trainers. If an individual official racks up enough bad grades they are terminated.

Oh and all of this will be public knowledge (grades, suspensions, terminations) and transparent.

That would be amazing, and I would love to see it happen.

But unfortunately the NFL is legally filed under entertainment. They have no obligation whatsoever to deliver fair officiating.
They are going to do what they feel makes them the most money. (Steering games.)

Only when there is major public outcry, and could effect their bottom-line will they care.

The Fail Mary is a great example of what I'm trying to describe here. Remember the outrage. Yeah, it has to be on a national level. Not just 1 fan base crying about refs when their team lost unfortunately.

It sucks. The NFL is rigged for profit. Not to see who the actual best team is.

Legalized gambling will put the pressure to keep everything on the up

Now I don’t think games are fixed by the league

Look into the Rooneys, Maras. Bidwells, Debartollos, etc. They were involved with the Mafia, and Gambling before they joined the NFL.

It's not scripted. You're not watching the WWE. The difference between winning & losing is razor thin. You just have to call 2-3 ticky-tak flags a game, and the outcome can be heavily influenced. Why wouldn't the NFL do this if it meant they could make even more money, in key situations.

There have been books written on the subject, but here is a quick and dirty synopsis, on just some of the NFLs shady history.

"The NFL’s ties to gambling are nothing new. Going back to the infancy of the NFL, gambling has been a driving force for the league. Some people claim that Steelers’ founder and racetrack owner, Art Rooney Sr., purchased the franchise in 1933 with winnings from horse racing.

Although that may be unproven, other affiliations are not. Chicago Cardinals (now in Arizona) founder Charles Bidwill Sr. was also a racetrack owner (more on him in a minute). Tim Mara, the founder of the Giants, was a bookie at the time of his purchase of the Giants. All three franchises still remain within the family.

Back to Bidwell. Before he ultimately founded the Cardinals, Bidwell Sr. was a known gambler and bootlegger who had ties to Al Capone’s mob. In the 1920’s Bidwell helped George Halas finance one of the league’s most storied franchises, the Chicago Bears.

And the list goes on. Former Cleveland Browns owner, Arthur McBride, was the head of the Continental Racing Wire. What is that you ask? It was the mob’s gambling news service.

McBride would later sell the franchise to Art Modell, who like many owners that preceded him, was involved in horse racing. His partner at the horse track was a man named Morris Wexler. He too had ties to the Continental Racing Wire and Capone’s mob.

In a more recent example, beloved San Francisco 49ers owner and recent inductee to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Eddie DeBartolo, bribed a Louisiana governor, $400,000, for a casino boat license. DeBartolo avoided jail time but was banished from the NFL for just the 1999 season. However, he decided not to return to the team, handing over power to Denise York.

But they called it "holding" didn't they? Which would make it even more egregious. But, I may have misheard it as well. Was a block in back or hold?

Fade - I know the history

Gambling can have an influence when the players and the system don’t make much money. CFL is much likelier to be targeted, just as we have seen Tennis be targeted over the past several years

To influence multi-billion organizations where individuals are making millions is much much harder

Yes they called it holding and all the footage showed on TV the blocker had his hands up around his helmet.

^^^^^^ THIS!! ^^^^^^
Just be as neutral and fair as humanly possible.
Players are constantly being called for their mistakes, yet Officials can be as SLOPPY as hell at their jobs, and they face NO REPERCUSSIONS.
After awhile, "We're Sorry" just isn't cutting it anymore.
